Hey U Guys have posted the following excerpts from a roundtable interview with the actor and below are the relevent parts regarding The Amazing Spider-Man where Sheen reveals some new details about the relationship between Uncle Ben and his nephew as well as his thoughts on Andrew Garfield and the filming of the scene where Uncle Ben meets his make at the hands of an armed robber.

"I’m not in any of the scenes where he’s Spider-man. He’s still a little boy. He’s a teenager when it starts. I’m a surrogate father really, I’m his uncle. And so all of our scenes are just like you and I talking now. I’m dealing with this adolescent who is having problems with changes, with hormones changing and his getting out of hand. I have to give him the marching orders and so forth. It’s all very normal. And the guy playing him is wonderful..."

"He [Andrew Garfield] called me up and said he’d like to meet me and I said who are you and he said I’m playing your nephew. I said, you’re Spider-man! And we met for lunch and he was delightful. He just wanted to see who I was and whether I was open to changes, whether he could improvise with me. I was delighted and we had a wonderful time."

"I’ve never seen him in the uniform, I’ve never seen any of the stunts, any of the special effects, the green stuff. All my stuff is like normal acting and I don’t do anything with him otherwise. I’m dead in reel one y’know. I don’t do the end until I’m in New York. In April and May, that when I finish up with him. That’s where I get shot. There’s no special effects for me, that’s for the other characters."

While any Spider-Man fan knows that Uncle Ben is killed before Peter becomes a costumed hero, I guess this pretty much confirms that we're going to see a full blown origin story. Of course, that really shouldn't be too much of a surprise considering that it will have been a decade since the release of the first Spider-Man movie by the time that this is released.

With an all star cast that includes Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Denis Leary as Captain George Stacy, Rhys Ifans as Curt Connors, Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben and Sally Field as Aunt May, The Amazing Spider-Man is set to be released in 3D on July 3, 2012!

Nice casting choice, looking forward to it...in a years time!
I like the phone call:
"Can we meet?"
"Who are you?"
"Andrew Garfield!"
"What, that fat ginger cat?!"

Is it just me, or does anyone else think this guy looks like a REALLY cheesy Uncle Ben? He looks like he was taken straight of an old cartoon...

Cliff Robertson looked more realistic IMO.

He mentioned that he is dead in reel one. I wonder if that means that not a lot of time is going to be spent on setting up that plot point for Peter. I'm okay with retelling it, as long as they keep it as concise as possible. I hope that's what he means.

I think it means flashbacks for uncle ben. So no origin, kinda like how they did spectacular spiderman did.

"That’s where I get shot"

No spoiler alert ?!!!!

Seriously, they better make the retelling of his origin short. I can't see how it could run less than a half hour before he wears the costume unless the origin is told in flashbacks.

@Dynamo

That doesn't look cheesy to you? I just don't think he looks very realistic. He looks like a stereotypical old-timer from a very old cartoon.

@IronAngelX

I just don't imagine Uncle Ben looking like he was straight out of the 40s or 50s. At least Cliff Robertson looked and dressed like he was part of this time-period. Just from the way he looks, I can already see some REALLY cheesy "father-son moments" happening between him and Peter in the film.

I'm sure this movie will be great and all but I'm finding it hard to get excited about sitting through another 2 hour Spider-Man origin story. They should have just moved forward while still discrediting everything from the original like Marvel did with Hulk and The Incredible Hulk.

He doesn't pretend to know or care who Andrew is. He never once calls him by name. "..the guy playing him". "you're Spider-Man", "I finish up with him." He's a Sheen he can't be bothered with details.

Yeah pretty much what Tea just said. Origin's just going to be a flashback. Nothing to get too excited about.

The possibility of the origin as either a credits flash back is cool but I was just thinking that Marc Webb's previous effort 500 Days of Summer was non-linear and as you progressed through the movie you made assumptions about the characters and their situations and then they change when we discover something new...does anyone think this could work for Spidey? Like the film opens with him as Spider-Man say, having a talk with Curt Conners who is slowly transforming into the Lizard at this point, and trying to work out how to counteract the symptoms talking about body chemical changes (basically changes and stuff) - then if flashbacks to Uncle Ben reassuring Peter about growing up at an earlier time...I'm just rambling again...just an idea...

Isn't this this the SAME-Guy who had no idea "Who" Spider-Man was, until he heard and saw a little of Spider-Man 2, on an airplane?! Just checking, becasue the last time I checked he had no Idea who the hell Parker/Spider-Man WAS?! So if I'm wrong about I don't know hatting the idea of a "reboot" or think and know it was a "terriable idea" to reboot it; when they could've Contineus-please tell me if I'm wrong! Costume still looks like shit and Garlfild should've played Miguel O'hara from: Spider-Man 2099. That I Would SEE for sure! But its never going to happen. ha-ha-lol!
