Matt Tolmach Won't Reveal Whether We'll See Spider-Man In SINISTER SIX Or VENOM

In the following video interview at the world premiere of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, producer Matt Tolmach comments on the chances of Spider-Man appearing in Sinister Six or Venom, while also addressing a crossover with The Avengers and...a heroic Sinister Six?!

With the Venom movie, with the Sinister Six movie, there's a certain name not on the title. Are we going to see Spider-Man crop up or is it the start of the supervillain movie?

We'll see. That would be an enormous spoiler I cannot give you. I'll just say that anything is possible. That's the fun of that, and that is what you see in some of those Marvel movies. Once you sort of decide to open up the universe, the rules go out of the window and you get to have fun. So, without actually answering the question, we'll see what happens!

Have there been any discussions, at any level, about any character swinging by to say "Hi!" in a [Marvel] movie?

We talk about everything all the time, but Marvel and Disney and Sony are obviously two very different companies. As great as it would be, the truth is no. Right now, we are working with the characters in the Spider-Man universe, and there are tons of them. The question everyone asks, 'Is Spider-Man going to show up in The Avengers?', that's not a plan for now. Right now, the truth about Spidr-Man is that he swings along. That's his plight, so it's not happening anytime soon.

You've got a lot of villains in the universe, how many other heroes have you got?

If you look for example at Venom, I think knee-jerk people thing, 'Venom! A villain!' Really? Venom is a character who has this innate sense of goodness and justice, so there are lots of characters who can be a little bit of both. So, when you start talking about a Sinister Six movie, is it just going to be all bad guys? No. There's complexity to all of them, and that's part of the fun we're having right now as we're building it. Some characters are way worse - badder - than others. There's a lot you can do. There are some guys who are redeemable, and some who are really horrible.

Starring Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan, Chris Cooper, Paul Giamatti, Colm Feore, Sally Field, and Chris Zylka, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set to be released in the UK on 18th April and in the US on May 2nd.

Spiderman will be in the Sinister 6 and the Venom film. They can't make those movies without him being in them. That's just a given really.

No, he doesn't.

I hate heroes dying, but I actually believe Peter will see his end in ASM3.

@CaptainObvious

I fully expect this version of Venom to be the Flash Thompson one.

I like Sony's plans.

Fox's, on the other hand, seems to include holding the FF at gunpoint.

I'm also hoping the Sinister Six is as close as possible to Dark Avengers as a concept as they can get. Villains, psychopaths, etc, under the leadership and somewhat control of a psycho himself who is barely under control himself, trying to prove he's a hero etc.

Talk about a team with issues, ought to be very compelling whatever they do.

I read an Eddie Brock/Venom shortlist with the following actors:

Pete Ploszek
Xander Ludwig
Alan Ritchson

I feel Venom needs fight spider-man first before solo film. Then I have them team up and try to put there different side and try take down carnage. It would make for better movie see there personality and view of justices clashing together arguing with each other. Venom going want to kill carnage spider-man not. Also Spider-man has be in sinister six film it be dumb if he not he'll be there. O and Eddie brock is venom or not seeing it.

I hope one day these studios work together to bring in spider man, xmen and fantastic four into the same universe that cap, iron man and hulk are in. That would be a dream come true but I guess we'll see down the line.

A Sinister Six movie sounds like an incredibly bad idea. But a Venom movie is way overdue. I personally hope for a Flash Thompson version, but I know I'm the minority there.

You guys are all blind if you think Eddie Brock should be Venom. The only good story where Brock is kind of a hero is Maximum Carnage, and that's with Spidey. A Flash Thompson movie would be easier, and IMO, better

looking forward to both movies, venom needs to be portrayed right this time after they f*cked him up so badly in spider-man 3.

I'm so excited for this to be officially announced with a few stars attached so I can come on here and complain about a product before even seeing it like everyone else does.

Not sure why people are "wtf-ing" at the "goodness and justice" line.

Eddie Brock Venom may not be a good or nice character, but he viewed himself as a "lethal protector" and saw Spider-man as evil. He has saved innocent civilians in his own series in the past (he's a Catholic after all).

He's essentially not unlike the Punisher in the old days. He's been an anti-hero for a long time, long before Flash took the mantle. It's only really been Mac Gargan who's been the truly evil Venom.

"Venom is a character who has this innate sense of goodness and justice"

No - only Flash Thompson has ever been able to control the Venom suit into doing anything remotely good.

Regardless - chances are this means it'll be Venom as an anti-hero fighting Carnage.

Venom would be better off as the villain but a villain who clashes with other villains because they're messing with his plans. The Anti-Hero route is ok but it's been done. And you don't want to do that with Sinister Six coming out.

Sounds stupid. What's the point of a sinister six movie if they're not fighting Spider-Man?
Hey let's put darkseid, black Adam, doomsday and sinestro in a movie where they're heroes people don't expect.

The flaw of most Spider-Man movies is always the "sempathetic villain". For once can we just get a villain who is actually a bad guy

I don't want Spider-Man to show up in either movie unless it's a small cameo or fight scene. I'm ready for some villain focused movies.

Jer3miah - 4/10/2014, 4:21 PM
Venom doesn't have that sense he speaks of like that. Venom is a villain with a goal. He's not directly evil, but he'll do evil things to serve his own justice. Just not blatantly kill off innocents to do so.

He's a very dark antihero, at best. He only sided with Spidey to save his love interest. If not for that, he would have let Spidey die. (both in comics and 90s cartoon, mind you)

A 2099 movie would be amazing! It could involve time travel and Peter Parker's Legacy as Spiderman. It would absolutely incredible. If you are listening Sony there is an idea!

@goldenone33...exactly!! It's a sad attempt at an avengers/justice league team up. It will totally deflate seeing the sinister six in a Spider-Man movie. Epic fail is coming sony.
