Jared Leto's time as The Joker in The DC Films Universe may well be over, but he's currently sinking his teeth into another sinister comic book character, this time as the lead in Sony's Morbius movie.

The Academy Award-winning actor has taken to Instagram to share a new behind-the-scenes look at his character, Michael Morbius - a brilliant biochemist who becomes a vampiric antihero after injecting himself with a serum derived from bats in an attempt to cure a rare blood disease.

The short teaser for the Spider-Man spinoff is accompanied by the quote: "Because no one else will walk this path...this place of shadows, where we do what must be done, no matter the cost. #MORBIUS"

This doesn't show us a whole lot more than some recently leaked set photos did, but it's nice to get a new official look at the character - even if he still hasn't fully transformed into The Living Vampire yet.

Morbius is being directed by Daniel Espinosa from a script by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama. The movie also stars Jared Harris, Matt Smith and Adria Arjona in undisclosed roles.

All this hate for a movie that doesn't even have a trailer... Would it be better if all these characters were part of the MCU? Of course. But since they are not, I might at least reserve my judgment when I have something substancial to judge upon.

@Urubrodi - I see you're new around here...

Dude, take a look at the original articles when Sony announced Spider-verse. People around here shit on everything the second they here about it.

@Himura - Actually no mate, been here a long time. Usually I try not to care about the blind hate that some people have about stuff they have not seen yet, but it's just that sometimes it can get so annoying. But yeah, it's not worth it, cause it's never going to stop. Most people here have a love or hate at first sight complexity. The first time they see something, they already set their mind if they will like it or not.

I feel like Jared Leto actually thinks he is the characters that he's playing...

That line would be so much better if it didn't sound like Leto thought he was making some supreme sacrifice, instead of his character.
"where we do what must be done, no matter the cost."

Like reality bro, you get paid a stupid amount of money to dress up and play pretend. Just EMO as fug.

@Demigods - Jared Leto is a method actor, so usually they dive into the roles by living out as much of their life as they can like the character they're playing. Sort of like how Michael B. Jordan maintained a really bad attitude through the filming of Black Panther and never really talked to/hung out with the rest of the cast. Or Daniel Day Lewis in basically anything he's done.

Also, the quote is most likely in the movie in some context that you have no idea of.

Also, no need to rag on actors as just "playing pretend". They help make the stuff you enjoy watching come to life. Maybe appreciate it just a bit.

@oldnoname -
yeah man, I get method acting. I get that the quote is most likely taken directly from an epic part of the movie. I just think that Leto is a tool who takes everything he does too seriously and acts like every time he farts in front of camera or microphone, it's art.

I dunno man. I'm probably being overly critical. I just think he's a tool. Like I said, even if he put quotations around that quote, it would seem so much more genuine. Instead, he's probably taking a line written by someone else, passing that off as his own art and now making it sound as though there's some supreme sacrifice he is personally making (as he edits his IG post from a hotel room that probably costs more than most people's homes, while being fed lobster)

I just don't like actors who take themselves too seriously, unless they're playing a real person or trying to depict real events. I mean paying homage is cool too and taking your craft seriously is necessary (to an extent).

PS
don't take that rant to mean that I'm some anti-capitalist who hates people who make money. I've always gotten the vibe that Leto's a tool. I dunno. Don't talk about personal cost as an actor playing a vampire. Just seems super Hollywood phony to me. Perspective man.

@Demigods - I get how the way he acts on sets can annoy people. Like the stuff I heard him doing on SS sounded super extra, but luckily the cast was cool with it (for the most part). I always interpreted it as him showing his excitement for the role. For this one I felt like he was just trying to telegraph the tone of the film/character.

All of it could be just as easily explained with him being a tool though, so you could be right.

I don't think you hate people with money, I just didn't see anything that implied that he thought he was struggling with anything in the post. It read like it was just a line from the movie.

Any news regarding Silver Sable and Black Cat? Is it still a go, and if so, we haven't heard anything about the cast yet, right?
