Nicolas Cage Reportedly In Talks To Play SPIDER-MAN NOIR In Live-Action Amazon Series

Nicolas Cage, who voiced Spider-Man Noir in Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, is reportedly in "serious talks" to play the hero in live-action for Sony's planned Prime Video series...

Around this time last year, we got word that Sony Pictures was developing a live-action Spider-Man Noir series for Amazon Prime Video, and the show may have found its lead.

According to The Ankler, Nicolas Cage (Ghost Rider, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent) is in "serious talks" to return as a live-action take on the hero after voicing him in Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse.

The untitled series (we assume it'll be called Spider-Man Noir) will reportedly follow an "older, grizzled superhero in 1930s New York City. The show will be set in its own universe and the main character will not be Peter Parker."

Of course, the comic book incarnation of Spider-Man Noir is an alternate universe version (or Variant) of Peter Parker, but this project may have decided to give the character a different identity to avoid confusion.

Oren Uziel will serve as writer and executive producer on the show, with Into the Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and former Sony boss Amy Pascal also on board as executive producers.

Uziel is known for penning romantic actioner The Lost City, along with the likes of 22 Jump Street, Mortal Kombat, and The Cloverfield Paradox. He's also has writing credits on John Wick: Chapter 4 and the upcoming Borderlands video game adaptation.

Sony/Amazon are still moving forward with a Silk: Spider Society series from showrunner Angela Kang, but we found out earlier today that the project has let go of its entire writers room (Kang is still on board) and may be "refocused with a more male-skewing audience in mind."

Cage didn't reprise the role of Noir for the recent Across the Spider-Verse, but is expected to return for the final film in the animated trilogy, Beyond the Spider-Verse.

The character was mostly utilized as comic relief in Into the Spider-Verse, but the comics are significantly darker, so it'll be interesting to see which direction this live-action show goes in.

"Spider-Man Noir, often simply referred to as Noir, is a superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Part of the Marvel Noir universe (Earth-90214), this alternate version of Spider-Man is a noir-themed take on the character and emerges in a version of New York during the Great Depression. While investigating a smuggling ring, Peter Parker is bitten by what seems to be a highly-venomous spider housed inside a spider-god idol. Falling unconscious, Parker has a vision of the spider-god promising him power. He then awakes inside a cocoon and emerges from it, now possessing super-human abilities similar to a spider."

This sounds strangely appealing. Cage though? Surely they can get a better lead than that.

@DocSpock - Hey... don't disrespect Cage like that, when he turns his acting skills on, he's great. Problem is that it's like playing Russian roulette, you never know which Cage you're getting.

@Urubrodi -

This could be really good. The Cage factor makes me wary that they might camp it up too much and just make it goofy.

What is ‘The Ankler’ and why is the site suddenly posting their scoops?

@CerealKiller1 - This info is also from the same article Josh cited about the Silk show, which means even HE didn’t think it was info worth posting

@CerealKiller1 - but he thought the other info they reported was? Do you realise how stupid that sounds? He didn't report on this because I already had it in the queue.

I am almost certain that Sony's contract with Marvel stops them from doing Spider-Man live action movies outside of the MCU. It's the only explanation...

smart move on Sony, it could be good. Disney should hire him also to play a variant of Luke Cage.

@harryba11zack - Nah, he’s not big enough to play Luke Cage

Oren Uziel is a terrible writer, so the series is DOA.

That would be a hell of a thing if it happens lol , I might actually get excited for a Sony comic book project.

I still would rather we just get an animated show or movie about Spider Man Noir and his world since that division seems to know far more what they are doing imo then the live action side.

If this is done right, I would watch this.

Sounds enticing, but I don't think I'll give Sony any more of my money for any of their Marvel movies, unless it's Beyond the Spider-verse or a Marvel Studios co-production.

And I know that this will probably be a Lord/Miller joint, but they had a trilogy in mind and now Sony wants to cream it because it's the only good thing they got going for them. I'd rather wait for Marvel to buy the rights back somehow, because obviously Sony are never gonna let them lapse ever.

That would be awesome, hope we get some Noir focused projects.

I'll watch anything with Cage in it, but would prefer to see him in a long term role in the mcu.

Why bring Cage back to play the role if they're not gonna call him Peter Parker and not make it the same character as the one in the Spider-Verse movies when that character was called Peter Parker numerous times? Like, either make it the same character, or make it a different one, don't blur the lines and be weird about it.

@AC1 - I’m genuinely thinking they can’t use Peter Parker in live action due to the MCU films.

I've seen mostly all that the appointed showrunner has done so I'm confident. It's Nic Cage I'm not so sure about, I know it's sort of a meme thing to always praise him but he's also done across the last years some very dumb and awful films which contradict any sort of talent that he has.

A good way to play it safe with him but also go out would be to opt with animation: he just has to voice the character.
