Sam Elliott Addresses J. Jonah Jameson Rumors, Hulk And Ghost Rider 2!

The actor reveals whether or not he's actually up for a role in Spider-Man and shares his thoughts on not being asked to reprise his roles in either The Incredible Hulk or Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance...

On Whether Or Not He's Been Contacted About Playing J. Jonah Jameson:

"I had no idea. It would be fun, but who knows? I wish I had a crystal ball. We all wish we did, right?"

On Not Being Asked Back For Hulk And Ghost Rider Sequels:

"They did 'Hulk,' then they did a reboot of that as something totally new ... and that fell flatter on its face than the first one did. I hear they're doing a sequel to 'Ghost Rider' as well. I don't think I've been recast; I just think my character isn't in it."

On Whether He'd Consider Starring In Any Other CBM's In Future:

"I just like to work, and the first consideration is that it be decent work, good work. It's what I've wanted to do since I was a little kid, and I've just been blessed. It's been good for me and good for my family, and hopefully, I've been relatively good to the business."

It's too bad TIH did badly, considering it's easily better than a lot of CBM's....one of the best actually. Or at least, one of my personal faves. The fight scene at the end was beyond epic.

If not JK Simmons, I really think JJJ should be played by John McGinley from Scrubs.

TIH is twice the movie "hulk" ever will be... there r no words to describe TIH except: INCREDIBLE! too bad it did poorly at box office... but how did we know it was going to be 1 of the best CBMs of all times? oh well... we all make mistakes even CBMers... but only sometimes...
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 10/29/2010, 4:35 PM
Ryden: I completely agree! The Incredible Hulk is one of my favourite CBM's as well and that fight scene is probably one of the best I've ever seen in a movie. It deserved to do a lot better than it actually did, and as I've said before, 2010 should have been the year of Iron Man 2 AND The Incredible Hulk 2!

DukeAcureds - 10/29/2010, 4:36 PM
Hulk's a good film. It's just not a good Hulk film. TIH is about as good as a Hulk film gets. It is the shit. Nuff said.

the mans a legend but i dont think he could pull off jjj as well as simmons. i dont think anyone could

i think im the only one on this site who thinks the first hulk is better than the reboot. it wasnt great sure but it was alot better than the reboot. but if you took the drama from the hulk and the action from the incredible hulk THEN youd have a great hulk film
Ryden
Ryden - 10/29/2010, 5:13 PM
@DannyRand- Yeah he'd make a very cool Iron Fist movie. I think he totally understood what made a good Hulk mvoei, it was pure excellence.

@Josh- Yeah, I would LOVE to see TIH2 it was so good. Still, Ruffallo did say he had signed on to do Hulk sequels, and Tim Blake Nelson said he's very willing to play the Leader again.

@guinessguy- Are you high? The first Hulk was TERRIBLE. And in no way better than the reboot. The reboot totally understood what the Hulk was abaout, anger, rage and banner's ongoing chase.

Ang Lee's Hulk was a crappy arthouse film with a big budget, Hulk never got angry?! WTF?!!? That movie was an abomination to Hulk fans everywhere....and no I don't mean the villain.

He said, "They did 'Hulk,' then they did a reboot of that as something totally new ... and that fell flatter on its face than the first one did."

The key word there is "FLATTER," implying he knows the first one fell flat as well. And in terms of box office, he's right. As someone pointed out already, The Incredible Hulk made $134,806,913 in 2008. Adjusted into 2008 dollars, Hulk made $157,385,162. Fewer people went to see The Incredible Hulk. It fell flatter.

That being said, as much as I love Sam Elliott, J.K. Simmons WAS J. Jonah. He's gonna be almost impossible to top.

Well there's a person I never thought I'd agree with. But yeah, John C. McGinley is awesome, and might be able to follow successfully in J.K. Simmons' footsteps.

Now I should go purchase a lottery ticket, since Hell has apparently frozen over.

AlternateNo4

ugh no wonder i dont come around here much anymore. TiH was a dumb movie for dumb people. bana was a real scientist while norton was just a twitchy whiner... garner was brilliant AND breathtaking while tyler was a one note song. and elliott... well, he's amazing, but anybody would be compared to william hurt, who can take any movie and turn it into a vanilla-pudding-flavored bowl of thorazine. TiH was aimless, purposeless, redundant, self-indulgent, and totally message-less. the super-soldier b.s. was an AWFUL retcon--MUCH worse than Lee's starfish nonsense. and that was a godawful abomination--nolte's absorbing man was far more compelling. whatever... it's not like i'm not used to dealing with shallow people that want shallow entertainment. sometimes it just gets depressing.

"and that fell flatter on its face than the first one did"?
What reviews has he been reading cause im pretty sure the second one kicked ass. Maybe hes getting a little crazy in his old age. His character died in Ghost Rider, sooooo obviously his character isnt in it.

Sam Elliot was the best part of Ghost Rider, I feel. He's a great actor, and rocks that mustache pretty righteously. But, HOLY SHITE he is wrong about "The Incredible Hulk." His pride is hurt because it was better than BOTH CBM's he was in. But, he was a pretty damn convincing "General Ross."

Sam is way off on his "fell flatter on its face" line. Marvel Studios' The Incredible Hulk did better numbers than Hulk.

Both Marvel Studios and distributors Universal were happy with the numbers and were ready to make a sequel. But the issues they had with Norton caused the delay, which in turn forced them to wait until after The Avengers for a Part 2.

Elliot made himself sound bitter with that one.

If the second Hulk was considered bad its because they were frighted by how much of a piece of shit the first movie was. I thought the second one was awesome. Its funny how he called it completely new. It was exactly how the hulk character was suppose to be played.

I don't trust Sam Elliot's opinion on Marvel movies. After all, the two films he played in (Hulk & Ghost Rider) were dog-awful renditions of the superheroes. I don't think he truly knows what these characters are about.

"They did 'Hulk,' then they did a reboot of that as something totally new ... and that fell flatter on its face than the first one did."

Apparently Sam (while a brilliant character actor) doesn't doesn't live in the same world as the rest of us...

I duuno if I like acting in the Sc-Fi/fantasy genre. Sure 'Tron' was fun, but it wasn't emotionally satifying...
