Talking to MTV at Comic-Con this past weekend, Sam Raimi was asked to share his thoughts on Marvel Studios' plans for Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. First however, he touched on Marc Webb's two The Amazing Spider-Man movies. "Oh yeah, I saw them both; they were great," he said before moving onto his excitement about Marvel's upcoming take on the hero. "I'm really glad Marvel's taking it to high school. I think that's gonna be refreshing, and just like my favourite of the Spider-Man comic books. I have a lot of faith that they really know their stuff."

Asked what he would like to see Marvel explore in these new movies, the director of the original Spider-Man trilogy reiterated his interest in seeing Peter Parker in a high school setting. "I'd like to go into his high school life and his relationships with Gwen Stacy. I love Flash Thompson. The drama and the difficulty of going through high school is so unique to a superhero, that's what Spider-Man's all about, so that they're going to explore that is very exciting." Thoughts?

Spider-Man 2 remains one of the greatest superhero movies of all time. It's one of the few with both great heroes and villains.

I really disagree I want to see Mary Jane, not Gwen Stacy. The last two movies had her in it, so it's time Mary comes back into the series. I understand during that time Peter was with Gwen, but I just think Mary needs to be brought back.

Why did he think it's refreshing that Spider-Man is back in high school? Both origin films had Peter Parker in high school.

I wonder what raimi was smoking when he made these comments? TASM is one of the worst CBM's ive seen. Almost as bad as Spiderman 3.

So wait, he loves the idea of Peter in High School, yet he completely glossed over it in his movies? AND he thinks the TASM movies were great?

Raimi's just a classy dude. I've never seen him knock another director or take shots at another movie.

Hell, this is a guy who gives himself all the blame for Spidey 3 when we all know Sony execs were mostly at fault.

That's being an old-school Hollywood class act.

@InfiniteMonkey He's currently producing The Last of Us, who knows if he's directing that.

And I believe MCU Spidey won't be better than Raimi's. Hell Spider-Man 2 is still better than all of the MCU films. How many MCU films are there? 11? 12 with Ant-Man?

None have yet to top Spider-Man 2.
