SDCC '13: AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Director Marc Webb Teases The Gentleman (Gustav Fiers)

Alright, well here is an interesting little nugget for y'all to chew on. Yesterday, at San Diego Comic-Con 2013, Crave Online was surprised by Marc Webb when he offered up the name of an obscure Spidey villain, The Gentleman.

“What about The Gentleman?” Marc Webb said from out of the blue, while we were joking about the possibility of Philip Seymour Hoffman playing The Looter.

“That’s getting kind of obscure,” I replied, thinking he was just spitballing. “I always liked The Spot…”

He stopped me. “Think about the Gentleman,” he said. “I’m just saying. Put that in your… There’s your little tidbit. Think about The Gentleman.

“How serious are you being?” I asked.

Webb nodded dramatically. “You’re just nodding dramatically,” I continued.

“I’m just saying,” Webb concluded, “think about The Gentleman.”

Now, this actually is quite interesting as The Gentleman, in the comic books, has ties to the super-villain group, the Sinister Six. Which is something Marc Webb has hinted at in previous interviews. So back to The Gentleman (Gustav Fiers). He first appeared in March of 1999's Spider-Man: The Gathering of the Sinister Six. He is an ultra-wealthy businessman that enjoys manipulating people and making money off of other people's misfortunes.

As Fiers continued to monitor the life of Peter Parker, he was surprised to learn of the events that transformed him into Spider-Man. He made sure to kill those who told him so that the information would be his alone. He enjoyed watching the ironies that began to overtake young Parker's life. he did, that is, until he learned that Parker had learned of his parents and managed to clear their names, in a struggle which took the life of Karl Fiers, the Finisher. Both saddened and amused by the irony, the Gentleman began to plot the destruction of Spider-Man, Peter Parker, His family and friends, and the city he lived in. He wanted Parker to know who had done this to him and he needed to make a profit in the process--because that was how he worked. - marvunapp.com

Years later, The Gentleman, recruited his version of the Sinister Six, and paid them to destroy New York City. To learn more click here.

Also, would be great idea to have villain that has no super powers. Its so old when in every spider-man movie we get villain by accident(Goblin, Doc Ock, Sandman, Electro...)

During Adam-Troy Castro's Sinister Six trilogy of Spider-Man novels, a new Sinister Six- consisting of Doctor Octopus, the Vulture, Electro, Mysterio, the Chameleon, and original character called Pity (who can generate a psionic-based darkness)- are formed by Gustav Fiers, a notorious criminal known as the Gentleman, who wishes to kill Peter Parker in revenge for the actions of his parents in thwarting some of the Gentleman's schemes in the 1960s, having already been responsible for betraying his parents to their true killer, the Red Skull (Fiers requested that the Skull leave Peter alone because he preferred the challenge of fighting adults who could understand what was happening and possibly fight back to present some kind of challenge rather than the ease of taking out helpless children).

Does anyone else think that this is the guy from the firsts movies mid-credits?
FreedomFreeLife
FreedomFreeLife - 7/20/2013, 4:34 AM
It could be. I mean The Gentleman knew everything about Peter Parker in comics, and mid-credits it seems to be old guy who knew also something about Peter Parker.

It does look like him.

It could be Colm Feore's character maybe.

I CALLED IT!!!

The person who showed up in the cell during the end credit scene was The Spot!!!

That should make for some pretty interesting fight scenes...my guess is that he is under the employ of GREEN GOBLIN...

Philip Seymour Hoffman should be Doc Ock!!! Do it! and do any of you guys think Gustav Fiers was the guy at the end credits scene of TASM?? I mean right here it says that he follows Peter very closely and even knew about what happened to his parents hence the line, "Did you tell the boy about his father?"

I actually read the novels featuring The Gentleman back in middle school (geez, that was almost 10 years ago). It was a pretty good story.
