Alright, well here is an interesting little nugget for y'all to chew on. Yesterday, at San Diego Comic-Con 2013, Crave Online was surprised by Marc Webb when he offered up the name of an obscure Spidey villain, The Gentleman.

“What about The Gentleman?” Marc Webb said from out of the blue, while we were joking about the possibility of Philip Seymour Hoffman playing The Looter.

“That’s getting kind of obscure,” I replied, thinking he was just spitballing. “I always liked The Spot…”

He stopped me. “Think about the Gentleman,” he said. “I’m just saying. Put that in your… There’s your little tidbit. Think about The Gentleman.

“How serious are you being?” I asked.

Webb nodded dramatically. “You’re just nodding dramatically,” I continued.

“I’m just saying,” Webb concluded, “think about The Gentleman.”

Now, this actually is quite interesting as The Gentleman, in the comic books, has ties to the super-villain group, the Sinister Six. Which is something Marc Webb has hinted at in previous interviews. So back to The Gentleman (Gustav Fiers). He first appeared in March of 1999's Spider-Man: The Gathering of the Sinister Six. He is an ultra-wealthy businessman that enjoys manipulating people and making money off of other people's misfortunes.

As Fiers continued to monitor the life of Peter Parker, he was surprised to learn of the events that transformed him into Spider-Man. He made sure to kill those who told him so that the information would be his alone. He enjoyed watching the ironies that began to overtake young Parker's life. he did, that is, until he learned that Parker had learned of his parents and managed to clear their names, in a struggle which took the life of Karl Fiers, the Finisher. Both saddened and amused by the irony, the Gentleman began to plot the destruction of Spider-Man, Peter Parker, His family and friends, and the city he lived in. He wanted Parker to know who had done this to him and he needed to make a profit in the process--because that was how he worked. - marvunapp.com

Years later, The Gentleman, recruited his version of the Sinister Six, and paid them to destroy New York City. To learn more click here.
