SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING Star Tom Holland Is Exactly Who Stan Lee Saw When Writing The Character 50 Years Ago

While 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming wasn't beloved by all,  some taking issue with the level of involvement fellow MCU hero Tony Stark had in the film, few can argue that Tom Holland didn't deliver a note-perfect portrayal of the wall-crawling superhero. His youthful exuberance, endearing earnest, and lovable humor was a far cry from the blubbering and or moody portrayals of the character previously made by Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield.

Now the character's co-creator and comic book legend Stan Lee has chimed in and while he, of course, has nothing bad to say about the previous actors to inhabit the role, his praise for Holland is quite high.

Tom Holland is set to reprise the role in Avengers 4 on 3rd May 2019, and then in his second Spider-Man solo outing set to hit theatres July 5, 2019.

What do you think? Do you agree with Stan? Is Tom Holland your favorite Spider-Man? Who do you think would have been a better choice? Leave your thoughts below.

I agree with Stan here. Say what you will about Tom Holland’s Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the movies, but Tom Holland is a phenomenal actor and looks the part for Spidey.

He’s got what it takes to be the best Spider-Man in cinema if the character he played was more independent like in the comics. I hope the sequel for Homecoming has him really FEEL like classic Spidey.

@Origame - My personal opinion of course, but I found his tech dependence well done in the film. The first act establishes his intelligence, we see him making his web fluid and all his crime fighting didn't use any fancy suit tech.

The second act shows him and Need tinkering with a suit (again establishing that he's intelligent enough to understand the tech behind the suit, revealed again when he escapes from the DODC lockout), but from here we seem him start to develop a dependance on the suit which leads to him attempting something he should have been able to do but fail - regarding the ferry scene.

Third act he's left with no fancy tech. Everything he does from here on out is on him. Him following the Vulture, and redirecting the plane to crash on an empty piece of land is all done without the help of an A.I and all other accompanying tech. This is all followed by him rejecting the iron spider suit and being given his old suit back presumably from infinity war, with no tech.

Infinity War comes next and while he is given the Iron Spider suit, it really doesn't have any fancy tech to go along with it other than the legs. Regarding your last comment, I thought the whole point of the film was to show how Peters more incompetent when he's too dependant on the tech in his suit, and he finally succeeds when he sticks to his guts. Just my opinion of course feel free to disagree.

@AbidNaga - He was pretty incompetent without the tech too (though not in anything Russos related). I mean he's taking on Winter Soldier (who's basically Captain America) and Falcon at once. But then a bird guy grabs him and the only way for him to get out of it is through a function in the suit that happened automatically? And just understanding the tech doesn't make you competent. Ned is competent. He was able to bypass the training wheels protocol. Peter was not. Not when saving his classmates from falling (suit trajectory) or saving the ferry (suit's plan plus Iron Man assist). It was only at the end. And I agree with Infinity War. But that's because they write him better than the people who wrote Homecoming.

@AbidNaga - Really well thought out! I never understood the criticism of Peter and Tony's relationship. It seemed organic and, in a way, further develops Tony as a person who is less selfish and self centered from Iron Man 1.

Holland is phenomenal as Spidey/Peter. My favorite iteration so far, and it isn't close to me.

Love ya, Stan.
And I agree. However, as much as I love Holland's performance, I don't think the movies will be better than the Raimi films. Hopefully in be proven wrong. Although Mysterio appearing would automatically make it better...
Also, is it me, or does Tom kinda resemble young Stan?
