Variety has revealed that Sony is moving forward with a live-action Spider-Man Noir TV series that will stream exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. This is all part of the studio's plan to expand the wall-crawler's world on the small screen and now joins Angela Kang's (The Walking Dead) upcoming Silk: Spider Society.
Oren Uziel has been tapped to serve as the project's writer and executive producer, and developed the show alongside Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and Spider-Man franchise producer Amy Pascal (she facilitated the deal with Marvel Studio to share the hero much to Avi Arad's chagrin).
Uziel most recently wrote the hit action/rom-com The Lost City and has previously worked on the likes of 22 Jump Street, Mortal Kombat, and The Cloverfield Paradox. He's also credited on upcoming titles John Wick: Chapter 4 and Borderlands.
Spider-Man Noir is the second of several TV shows in the works for Amazon Prime Video and a big part of Sony's plans to expand the wall-crawler's world on streaming.
Oddly, the trade notes, "The untitled series will follow an older, grizzled superhero in 1930s New York City. An individual with knowledge of the project says that the show will be set in its own universe and the main character will not be Peter Parker."
In the comic books, Peter Parker is Spider-Man Noir, albeit in an alternate reality where the webbed wonder fights crime during the Great Depression. His powers, however, are mystical in nature so we'd guess the series will tie heavily into Madame Web and Silk: Spider Society.
As for who will be beneath the mask...your guess is as good as ours.
Sony continues to use the comic books as little more than vague inspiration for its live-action projects, something that's delivered mixed results in movies like Venom and Morbius. We'll see how Spider-Man Noir fares on TV as it definitely sounds like the series is moving ahead.
