SPIDER-MAN 2 Gameplay Reveal Trailer Includes Kraven The Hunter, The Lizard, And A Deadly New Suit

A 12-minute trailer for Spider-Man 2 headlined tonight's PlayStation Showcase, and as well as putting the spotlight on Kraven the Hunter, we see Peter Parker's new suit in action and even unleash The Lizard!

The first trailer and gameplay footage for Spider-Man 2 have just been released, and it's absolutely spectacular!

As you can see, this new sneak peek kicks off with Kraven the Hunter deciding to head to New York City to embark on his most dangerous hunt yet. As well as tracking down the two Spider-Men, the villain clearly intends to square off with many of the Big Apple's other heroes and villains, including Black Cat, Prowler, Tombstone, and The Wraith.

Shifting six months beyond that opening, we visit Queens (confirming we'll be able to spend time in more than just Manhattan during this sequel) where Peter Parker emerges from a basement wearing the Venom symbiote!

As well as allowing him to unleash a whole host of new powers, it's clearly having an influence on the web-slinger...and not a good one! Kraven's soldiers are hunting for The Lizard and, when the action shifts to Miles Morales - who has a few new abilities of his own - we're taken on an epic web-slinging chase across New York's rivers.

The massive Lizard soon gets in on the action, and while the heroes save the day, Peter really isn't his usual Friendly Neighbourhood self.

In fact, he's acting downright villainous, and something tells us that the influence of the new costume is going to spell trouble for everyone involved...could Spider-Man vs. Spider-Man be on the horizon?

We still don't have a specific release date beyond "Fall 2023," but this game can't get here soon enough! On the plus side, that release window is now confirmed, so rumours of a September/October launch are likely true.

Gotta say, looks great. But it's ridiculous how little we've gotten from the game. It's coming out this fall, yet we only had the announcement trailer and now this gameplay.

@Origame - First game was so good, they could have not released a single trailer for it and I'd still get it opening day
Origame
Origame - 5/25/2023, 6:57 AM
@OrgasmicPotatoe - I get that. But still, it's not a good sign. And with the recent practices of playstation, like starting to charge games $70, releasing a "remake" of the last of us that barely improved anything while still charging full price, and their buggy PC ports, there's reason to be skeptical.
LongMayHeReign
LongMayHeReign - 5/25/2023, 7:50 AM
@Origame - They are marketing this the exact same way they did Ragnarok. Teaser trailer, then gameplay trailer, then they will give the game to media outlets to do breakdowns of what's new. Ragnarok came out fantastic as will this.

Also in case you haven't noticed the entire industry has moved to $70 games. And the easiest way to rectify your issue with remakes that don't improve enough to justify a full price purchase is to simply don't buy it or wait for a price drop. It's a remake so it's not like you are missing out on something you likely have already played.

The buggy PC ports thing is the one point I can 100% agree on tho.

@LongMayHeReign - 1) except ragnarok was only great due to it being a carbon copy of God of war 2018. It's basically just an expansion. But even then the new God of war games moved closer to glorified movies like the last of us while Spiderman is still a gameplay focused franchise. So it taking this long to show gameplay is ridiculous. Especially when you consider the reveal for ragnarok showed gameplay a full year before the game was released. Something that can't be said for spiderman 2.

2) yes, they moved to it NOW that Sony got away with it. And they only got away with it because they had the IPs to lock behind the pay wall. The price hike simply is anti consumer. Something they continued by also increasing the price of the ps5 in every region besides the US.

3) except they advertised the game as being a from the ground up remake. And since this was post last of us 2 it implies the game would be using the quality of life improvements from that game. But no, barely improved if at all, all the same assets despite promising it was made from scratch, and charging $70 as if it were a brand new game. That's just greedy.

4) just throwing this out there, playstation has also been campaigning to prevent Microsoft from purchasing activision/blizzard despite them not keeping COD off of playstation and promising to make it available across all rental services, like playstation plus.

5) yeah, Sony really needs to get their head in the game for their PC ports.
LongMayHeReign
LongMayHeReign - 5/25/2023, 11:44 AM
@Origame - So clearly you do not pay attention at all (or at least closely enough) to the gaming industry for you to claim the industry went to $70 after Sony did, because that is flat out false. Both Activision and Take Two announced their games would moved to $70 before Sony did. Xbox followed suit later than the others because they literally had no games to justify said increase, and still don't with the tragic release of Redfall.

How can $70 games be "anti-consumer" when I as the consumer still hold all the power in the transaction process? I can literally choose to either not buy $70 games, wait for a price drop, or even rent. My options as a consumer are in not way affected anymore than if I was to buy any other product. "Anti-consumer" has become the biggest and meaningless buzzword in the gaming industry, and it's primarily used by people who have anterior motives than what's actually good for gamers.

Oh and as far as the ABK/MS deal goes, yea if I was Sony why would I believe a single word out of the mouth of Microsoft when it comes to keeping games on PS? Phil Spencer (Head of Xbox) literally said that when they bought Bethesda it wasn't to take games away from gamers, yet the first thing he did was have the PS5 versions of Redfall and Starfield cancelled and turned those games exclusive. So what exactly was your reasoning for even mentioning this deal?
Origame
Origame - 5/25/2023, 12:04 PM
@LongMayHeReign - ok, I'll admit I was wrong about those two, but Sony was still a frontrunner there and instrumental in making it the new standard. And Microsoft still had titles and their gamepass service. Not to mention Nintendo which is using tech 2 generations behind.

And dude, do I really need to explain to you that being charged more for what you previously got isn't good from the perspective of the consumer? These games aren't giving you much more than anything from before. It's basically a next gen tax. Something you shouldn't have to pay for because you already paid between $300 and $500 for a new console (probably more if you had to get it second hand since the consoles have been in low stock for years). Just because you can choose not to buy it doesn't mean it's anti consumer. Especially when it becomes the standard and the choices are "pay or don't game".

...you'd believe them because it's part of the deal presented to the regulators. They can't just lie about these things.

Also, Phil said the games that were already with deals from Sony would still be on playstation, but future releases would be exclusive. Starfield and redfall had no deals with Sony yet.
LongMayHeReign
LongMayHeReign - 5/25/2023, 5:00 PM
@Origame - Bruh games going up in price over time is not some unprecedented thing. As games become more expensive to make the price to buy them increases, this is simple economics. Before we paid $60 for games we paid $50, but the kicker is that way back before that $70 or higher games was a thing and now you guys are acting like it's brand new as if ya'll are new to this.

Games like Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West, and Spider-Man 2 cost $200M+ to make and take 4-6 years to make and unlike most games in the industry these days they aren't littered with microtransactions. So nah that $70 games take is a bunch of nonsense, if you want to own these games day 1 buy them , if not rent, wait for a sale or for them to be put in a service.

As far as the deal, the regulators themselves called out MS for being misleading in their Bethesda purchase, hence why MS is going around handing out 10 year deals to all these platforms and service holders. But it's pretty obvious that once those deals are over they will pull those games from their competitors platform ala Disney pulling Marvel content from Netflix once D+ was established.

Let's not act foolish and pretend MS is some virtuous company that actually gives a damn about consumers, because just like Netflix once they reach a certain sub milestone Gamepass will prices will begin to be jacked up to the high heavens and a large amount of their games will have microtransactions to offset costs.
Origame
Origame - 5/25/2023, 6:43 PM
@LongMayHeReign - 1) really not seeing how games are getting more expensive. They're reusing engines and assets constantly, they can just scan actors and real world objects to save on modeling, "remakes" like the last of us can get a pass for the full $70 despite barely any improvement, 30 fps remains the standard despite the hardware being used, and you also have games like forspoken, gotham knights, and Redfall being made by AAA developers despite looking like high end ps3 to low end ps4 games.

2) Microsoft has been very honest about the Bethesda deal. The deals are being honored. But beyond that they're going to be exclusive to anything with gamepass, which a) addresses a criticism you gave Microsoft for not having many games, and b) totally could've been on playstation but Sony refused to allow gamepass on their console.

3) I'm not saying they are. But they're doing far more than Sony for customer service. The Xbox series s is the cheapest way into the next gen experience, and gamepass is an incredible value for continuous gaming.
LongMayHeReign
LongMayHeReign - 5/29/2023, 10:19 AM
@Origame - 1) As hardware gets most powerful the demands of gamers also grows, games take far more time to make and with that time comes consistent pay for your workforce. With more cinematic type games comes more expensive actors/voice talent. Yes, oftentimes for sequels they can reuse assets but that doesn't significantly drop the budget when you have to add much more in other areas to justify a sequel. People always say games aren't more expensive to make but they really are.

2) Microsoft is the same company that tried to tell regulators that Call of Duty was not "Special" or "unique" in terms of spending and engagement among gamers. Because naturally the #3 highest grossing game franchise of all time isn't special? Phil and Co. went into these acquisitions claiming they were trying to bring games to as many gamers as possible, yet they are taking Bethesda games off of the market leading platform.

Gamepass does not address the criticism of Xbox having no games because that statement was never literal and was always referring to big AAA offerings which they still lack. Xbox always had indie and AA games but not the big blockbuster titles to challenge PS and Nintendo. Also MS only offered those ABK games to Sony for PS+ because they knew they would reject that offer. Why would Sony actively accept an offer that generates much less revenue because the games cost nothing upfront? MS is actively trying to train their customers to not pay for games, Sony is not.

3) The Series S is hardly a next gen console and is actually having a negative effect on games due to MS wanting parity between it and the Series X. Also Gamepass isn't even a better value than PS+ which has more games at a lower price and if I'm not mistaken more features. Yet at the end of the day we didn't spend $500 dollars on these new consoles for customer service we did it to play new next gen games and currently Sony is doing a much better job at providing those than MS.
Origame
Origame - 5/29/2023, 10:58 AM
@LongMayHeReign - 1) and what new demands are being met? It's been just as cinematic as it's previous counterparts, most of these games have exact versions on the previous generation, they aren't building new engines anymore, and the actors aren't known celebrities they need to pay millions of dollars for. The games that cost $70 aren't even on the list for highest budget games despite those games still making a profit at $60. And you have a $500 mil game in the form of genshin impact which can be played and beaten without any purchasing of real world money. There are no excuses.

2) they told the regulators that call of duty wasn't special enough that Sony couldn't compete if Microsoft owned them. They weren't saying they weren't special.

Also, notice the irony of you claiming Microsoft has no games, yet when they take action to get games you criticize them? At least Microsoft is buying IPs and developers as opposed to Sony who are paying for exclusivity rights on games they don't own.

3) that's misinformation brought on by an artist, not a developer, when defending how poor gotham knights turned out. The series s has the same computing power as the series x. Stalker 2 is being released exclusive to next gen, including the series s, because it simply cant run on last gen. Now look at this gameplay and tell me gaming is being held back when this is made compatible for the series s.

LongMayHeReign
LongMayHeReign - 5/31/2023, 11:30 AM
@Origame - 1) Genshin Impact is a live service game complete with microtransactions, it is absolutely idiotic to compare live service budget to a single player 20-30 hour experience. The will be making content for Genshin for years after launch hence the super bloated budget, but again that is offset by getting millions off of micros. A game like God of War 2018 cost $200M and only made money from actual purchases not dlc or micros. And mind you these are only the production budgets, to which you can easily add another $50-$100M in marketing costs.

"the actors aren't known celebrities they need to pay millions of dollars for."

Keanu Reeves got $2M for Cyberpunk and he wasn't even the main character appearing for about 6 hours of a 25 hour campaign.

2) I literally read the statement and MS was intentionally trying to downplay the success and importance of COD to regulators, stop the nonsense.

"Also, notice the irony of you claiming Microsoft has no games, yet when they take action to get games you criticize them? At least Microsoft is buying IPs and developers as opposed to Sony who are paying for exclusivity rights on games they don't own."

Are you even serious with this one? A) Where did I say MS had no games? B) You are trying to justify MS buying up the industry by complaining about Sony money hatting games? You do know money hatting games is a practice that MS has used in the past and is still using today right? Remember Rise of the Tomb Raider, COD map packs, Titanfall, Dead Rising 3?

Matter of fact here's just a small list of games that are timed exclusive to Xbox to kill that whole "PS money hats games" narrative you're trying to run with...

https://culturedvultures.com/timed-xbox-console-launch-exclusives-list/

3) It's not misinformation it is indeed an issue for many devs beyond just some artist. Why are so many games skipping Xbox? PS ain't money hatting all these game bruh, Baldur's Gate is proof of this. And why are you showing me Stalker 2 gameplay as if it proves some point about Series S? Is this Series S gameplay? Is it even Series X gameplay? No, odds are it's PC gameplay where EVERY game looks its best, therefore it's truly irrelevant to the issue at hand. By the way Stalker 2 always looked great hopefully the devs get the chance to finish it with all the BS they are dealing with.

I know you'll probably ignore this but here's a video on the issues Series S is causing.

Origame
Origame - 6/1/2023, 9:24 AM
@LongMayHeReign - 1) so what if it's live service? The point is you don't need to charge $70 to make a game profitable. It's not even like you need the microtransactions to win. Just if you want the right waifu.

Another example is gta 5. A game more expensive than the ones you're suggesting yet managed to make a profit on $60 per game.

2) that isn't downplaying the success. The context of the statement was in response to Sony arguing with the regulators that they can't compete against a Microsoft that owns call of duty. And Microsoft was simply pointing out the reality that there's plenty playstation can do to compete with call of duty.

A) 5/29/2024 10:19 am

B) they aren't buying up the industry. Even with the activision deal they are only gonna have 10.7% of the gaming market share.

Also, funny thing about your list for timed exclusives for Xbox is that literally all of them are also being released on PC. As opposed to Sony who do timed exclusives for only playstation. At least Microsoft gives some level of choice here.

3) dude, the games skipping on Xbox are either Japanese games where the market for Xbox is really small or more timed exclusives (thanks sony). What third party games aren't coming to Xbox because of the series s? As for baldur's gate 3, the devs have simply said they ran into some undescriptive technical issues getting split screen to work on both versions. For all we know it could be a problem on their end, not the console side.

Also, it doesn't matter if it isn't running on the series s. The issue "devs" are bringing up is that they need to get the game to run on both the series x and s. It's not even meant to be a different version. The series x version is what you're playing on the series s, with at best lower resolution. This is something that's still better than Sony who are still releasing games as recent as ragnarok on ps4.
