The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set to swing into theaters May 2nd, but Sony Pictures believe this film to be the first step into building a larger Spider-Man universe or Spider-Verse. With sequels to this film already set for 2016 & 2018 and spin-off films for villains Venom & the Sinister Six also in production, the possibilities for the future of this franchise are endless. Sony Pictures co-chairman Amy Pascal shared this about this film and how it ties into their future plans: "At the tail end of this movie we set up some of the other characters that will probably end up being in the Sinister Six." Star Andrew Garfield admits to be being partial to Venom, Doc Ock, Vulture, and Kraven.

Sony's plan in building the Spider-Man universe can be considered the first of its kind as instead of just focusing on its titular hero, they're choosing to also focus on Spidey's infamous rogues gallery with their planned Venom & the Sinister Six films, something that hasn't been attempted before. Producer Avi Arad says: "Villains can be very entertaining... it's not like somebody's born and they're a villain. Something happens and it changes their lives. Some people can deal with it - they become the hereos. Some people can't and hate the world because ofwhat they felt was done to them - they become the villains." Producer Matt Tolmach added: "Great villains are the characters you remember... There's a lot of us in those people. It's hard to identify with people who are good all the time."

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.

It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 features:
Director: Marc Webb
Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man
Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy
Jamie Foxx as Max Dillon/Electro
Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn
Sally Field as May Parker
Campbell Scott as Richard Parker
Embeth Davidtz as Mary Parker
Colm Feore as Donald Menken
Paul Giamatti as Aleksei Sytsevich/The Rhino
Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn
Marton Csokas as Dr.Kafka
B.J. Novak as Alistair Smythe
Martin Sheen as Ben Parker
Chris Zylka as Flash Thompson
Denis Leary as Captain George Stacy
Felicity Jones in an unspecified role

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theaters May 2, 2014.

I'm pretty certain Entertainment Weekly is the magazine Mark Hughes has been hinting will feature the debut of the new Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman costumes as a cover feature. SInce filming is set to start in the next couple of weeks, I'd say there's a good chance we'll get our first look at the new Batsuit et. al. either next Wednesday or the Wednesday after.

@Dev7
Because when they start filming in the open, they're not going to want fans' first look at the suits to be from set photos. Man of Steel released the first photo of Superman a few days before they started shooting with the suit in public, and by that point the movie was still two years off. The difference is Captain America 3 doesn't start filming until next year, BvS starts filming next month, and Warner Bros. has a lot hinging on the film. Once production starts, they're going to want to be in control of what we do and do not know, and unsanctioned spy photos aren't going to help them in that respect.

One of the only good things I will say about Sony owning Spider-Man is that they are better able to focus on bringing more events from the Spider-Man comics to life than the MCU could do for any one superhero. This shared Spiderverse will allow us to see most of Spidey's rouges gallery on the big screen. There's a lot of ground they could cover depending on how long they keep this franchise going. I'm still curious as to how a Sinister Six film would even work. Who could possibly be the antagonist in a film starring a bunch of villains?
