"Who knows?"

"Only the great gods of the movie world could answer that question,"

"Imagine a chess game, with the Greek gods moving us around — that's how it is in the movie world. Somebody's moving me about from one square to another, but I have no idea what square I'm headed to next."

I personaly wasn't a fan of his score in the spidey films. His style fit better with the Batman Franchise IMO. It just sounded like a repeat to me.

Spider-Man 3 was awful but the one of the only good parts IMO was Elfman's score - the first scene with Peter in the black costume was made brilliant by this guys music! :) His work in the first two was brilliant as well!

grif: I didnt know that about Spider-Man 3! Still, he did 1 & 2 so he is technically returning! :P

It's now hard to believe Danny Elfman was
the keyboardist and lead singer for an
80's band called OINGO BOINGO! He's come a
long ways. But I'm glad he's doing movies
now 'cause he's done some awesome music for
a damm lot of very popular movies! For
CBM'S sake, thank goodness he went into scoring
movies!

That's exactly how i feel, CDB. The man's great and all but his style is a tad overused in CBMs, i find. If he came up with a different vibe everytime i wouldn't say but such is not the case. He would PERFECTLY fit a Sandman film though. Of course i say this without even having read the books but i dunno, it feels right.

He's the most overrated composer in hollywood. The only 2 decent pieces of work he's done were Batman, and the Simpsons.
In the Spidey 3 dvd, they talk about how he wasn't involved at all. Christopher Young used his theme from the first 2 to keep continuity. I wouldn't even call it a theme. Batman and the Simpsons have a theme, because their themes are intantly recognizable, they are catchy enough to get stuck in your head, and you can find yourself humming it as you walk down the street. The Spiderman "theme" is not even a theme. It's 5 descending notes. Barely even notice it.
It's not like he's John Williams, or Ennio Morricone. Who cares whether he's back or not...

Sorry for the rant, I just don't like his music. Didn't even like Oingo Boingo back in the day...

hescian- Obviously you feel more passionate than me about it but i can sympathise, i really can. There is a lot of truth to what you say even though most of it comes down to personal preferences. He sure isn't john williams LOL :P But his 1989 Batman score was indeed breath taking. I just feel that he should diversify his style a bit from film to film.

@Shaman - I fully agree. I think my biggest beef with his music, is that it all sounds the same (with a couple of notable exceptions, like Batman). It always seems like less music, more noise.
And in fairness, I thought the Batman music was great...

SHHh@ fricking nice, havent seen that clip yet, how come I haven't seen that clip, HOW COME...!? Okay sorry for that outburst, just along time since I had my dose of The Dark Knight footage.

Oh and nice if his back, but a new composer with a fresh take is also welcome in my eyes just my honest opinion...

John Williams + Thor = a winning combination IMO :)) As long as he makes it sound incredibly different than Superman's score. But normally John's good with that.

One of my all time favorites is Michael Kamen.
