This May, a comic book prequel tie-in will be released for the upcoming Rocksteady Studios computer game Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
The five-issue limited series, Suicide Squad: Kill Arkham Asylum, explores the history of Task Force X, the fictional team that Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, King Shark, and Deadshot formed before being tasked with taking on the Justice League.
DC's description of the series reads, "Amanda Waller has taken control of the recently rebuilt Arkham Asylum, and her brutal tactics and merciless methods have led to the most secure facility Gotham City has ever seen. But remember that this is Amanda Waller, and she’s always got an angle. Arkham is part of her latest 'recruitment drive,' and she’s looking for the strongest, smartest, and most brutal inmates in the asylum to serve her as new members of Task Force X."
John Layman (Batman Eternal, Detective Comics, Chew) wrote the series, and Jess Hervás (Are You Afraid of Darkseid?) provided the illustrations. Dan Panosian created the book's primary cover, and Ariel Olivetti, Kyle Hotz, Steve Beach, and David Nakayama created alternate covers. Suicide Squad: Kill Arkham Asylum takes place in the same Arkhamverse as the video game it precedes, where the titular asylum was demolished in 2009's Batman: Arkham Asylum and rebuilt with a sectioned-off area of Gotham in 2011's Batman: Arkham City.
The release date of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC is set for May 26. This will be the first significant release for Rocksteady Studios since the Batman: Arkham franchise's conclusion. Four squad members can be controlled by players as they sneak into Metropolis to fight the Justice League, who seem to be under the power of Brainiac and his henchmen. The game, which also has Kevin Conroy's final performance as the Dark Knight, includes Superman, the Flash, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, and Batman.
Each print edition of Suicide Squad: Kill Arkham Asylum will include a digital ticket for a free in-game cosmetic item, just like the DC and Marvel Fortnite comics. DC Comics will also make the comic book available digitally for Annual and Ultra subscribers to DC Universe Infinite on the same day as it is in comic book stores, usually a few hours sooner. Also, they will receive the code, which is less usual.
The first issue of Suicide Squad: Kill Arkham Asylum arrives in comic book stores on May 30.
