Darren Aronofsky Now Linked To Superman!

It looks like Fox and WB are playing pass the director! As Aronofsky, previously linked to Wolverine 2, is the latest name to be thrown into the expanding short list of directors for the Superman reboot..

At this point, 3 directors have been mentioned in connection with both Fox's Wolverine 2 and WB's Superman reboot. Tony Scott, Matt Reeves and now Darren Aronofsky.

The LA Times report..

As he intensifies his search for a director on the Warner Bros. reboot, Christopher Nolan, who's godfathering the new Superman and producing the David Goyer script, has had discussions with Aronofsky about the job, sources say.

Aronofsky's latest, Black Swan, is gaining huge plaudits and is set to become a big art house hit. While he would seem a left field choice for something like Superman he is also just the type of director someone like Chris Nolan would go for in my opinion. Both made their names with tiny budget indie films and have since gone on to make some much bigger, successful, but never particularly commercial or "studio friendly" movies. The big difference between them is that Aronofsky has yet to make anything as big as Nolan's Batman films. But, he was all set to do the Robocop reboot for WB until it fell through. Maybe he will cut his blockbuster teeth with The Man Of Steel instead.

More updates as we have em.

Darren would make fricking intense Superman movie!:D Hope he takes the job!

Im on the side of older Superman (James Caviezel, Jon Hamm), but if they decides to get someone young in the role, my vote goes to DANIEL CUDMORE. He has the build and perfect looks for Superman. And is decent actor too.

Also i now he is little bit old, but my choice as Lex Luthor would be Ed Harris! He would be fricking cold and unscrupulous as Lex! Also he is not that old that he couldnt do some fight scenes. They can make him look younger too if its necessary.

Tab, there was a bit of action in The Fountain, but I agree he hasn't really had the chance to show us what he can do in that regard. Lets give it to him!

He's certainly talented. I'm liking the idea of Duncan Jones too.

Everyone's turning down Wolverine for Superman. [frick]ING GOOD!
As long as this guy doesn't turn Superman into some kind of whining artsy fartsy prick like Singer did.

Now this is a bit more like it - great find ROR! A director like Aronofsky is far better suited to a movie like this than some Fox shit. The Wrestler was a masterpiece IMO. However, Duncan Jones is still my top pick from the names I've so far seen suggested. :)

Awesome find! Darren, Matt, and Duncan are more top choices for the director's chair.

@Ror
Both Nolan and Aranofsky do come from similar backgrounds. I'm more into the idea of bringing in indie filmmakers onto larger projects like this because they tend to have a better understanding of what makes a good story. They have a good vision and know how the structure should be built and layered. Then again Darren is in the same field as Matt and Duncan in terms of territory. Either three would make me a very happy camper!

@AlexDeLarge666
I'm all for an older Superman! Always saw him as being more mature rather than a 28 year old or close to that age.

@TABOO13 & @SHAZAM171
I'm with you on that. More fists pumping!! But with story. :)

God I am so [frick]en fed up with all the damn rumors. We need some real FACTS.

It's ok I guess...

@Dynamo- AMEN BROTHER!! Singer made Superman into- "Super-lame-bastard father-no-punchie-stalker.

This reboot better be good. The reboot was first announced back in February...so I estimate it would have taken the studio 8 full months since the film was first announced just to choose a damn director. They are going slowly with this movie and it is Superman's LAST CHANCE to truly inspire the modern audience and it is WB's final chance to appease the Superman-fanbase. I've been a hardcore Supes-fan my entire life. I have called both DC and WB and discussed the Superman project with them. For we- the FANS...they cannot afford to [frick] UP AGAIN.

The Superman reboot is by far WB's most seemingly fragile project. Another director even said that Superman is the "king daddy of all comic book heroes" which is why he said it is so [frick]en hard to make a movie for him.

IF WB can finally nail a successful Superman film geared towards the modern audience and reinvigorate the franchise...then there's no telling WHAT else they can do! That will by far be their BIGGEST accomplishment. It will be as epic of an accomplishment as Marvel's Avengers film being made.

Because like I said...Superman is the character most DIFFICULT to integrate successfully into a film. WB has made that very clear. This could end up becoming the most epic CBM of all time.

Ok, just looked him up and he directed Requiem for a Dream and The Wrestler both of which I thought were BRILLIANT!

"@ss 2 @ss"

Possibly the greatest line in cinematic history!

Those two films more than make up for The Fountain, but this is an entirely different kind of film than he is used to making.....Let's hope NOLAN gets it right!

Darren Aronofsky could direct a good superman movie

@Talontd

he was linked to do a Robocop reboot but it did not work out cause the studio wanted Robocop to be in 3D and he did not want to make the film 3D.

@RorMachine

that look great if only WB did that for Jonah Hex for crying out loud. Coen brothers would of done a better job with Jonah Hex instead of cr*ppy Jimmy Hayward and Akiva Goldsman

Darren Aronofsky has the chops, artistically and technically to take Supes to a new dimension for sure. The visual sci-fi beauty of The Fountain, with the gritty realism of The Wrestler, mixed up with blue tights and a really hot Lois? Yeah, hard to see how that wouldn't work.
However, my pick would be Duncan (Zowie Bowie)Jones. After watching his film Moon I thought to myself that this is how I'd like to see a Superman movie done. Now that The Great One is producing, Superman has the opportunity to escape from the exec-bean counters, and save fandom from another Super-s**t movie.
Of course, whose gonna' wear the red undies?

jazz@ Yeah! What the h*ll they were thinking?! They got Josh Brolin as Hex and Malkovich as Turnbull and they f*cked it up real bad! And now im 100% sure we dont see Brolin as Hex anymore if they someday make a reboot! Harris would be great Turnbull too

I too am sick of the rumor mill and would like some hard facts. Especially with this problematic project.
THAT BEING SAID...
Nolan producing and Arnofsky directing?! That's straight money! With the respect those two both have for cinema itself, as well as the respect for source material that shows through in all of their projects, there's almost no way it could be bad.
THAT being said...it IS a Fox project. And Fox could screw up their own ability to breathe air.

Keeping my fingers crossed for this.

not sure what they thinking but some reason they keep on having Akiva Goldsman to produce and writter for them. he must be blackmailing them cause his the producer for both Jonah Hex and The Losers this year and they both failed. this guy wrote both Batman Forever and Batman & Robin and see how them turn out lol.

Harris would be a good Turnbull but i doubt we will see a reboot for awhile.
