AccessHollywood.com caught up with True Blood star Joe Manganiello at PaleyFest 2011. The 34-year-old actor – who is now a series regular – revealed that scheduling prevented him from screen testing for the “Superman” reboot title role, a part since filled by former “Tudors” star, British actor Henry Cavill.

“At the end of the day they wanted me to screen test and they actually asked for my measurements for the suit and everything… their shoot date switched and it would have taken up 11 weeks out of my ‘True Blood’ schedule,” Joe explained. “At the end of the day, we couldn’t get the schedule to work so that I could go off and screen test. So, regrettably, I never got to go screen test, I never got to put the suit on.”

So what do you guys think about Manganiello not even getting a chance to test for Zack Snyder's superman? Do you think Henry Cavill still would have got the part?

So Does That Mean They Have A Design For The Suit Now???

He's making it sound as though he already got the part in the bag. I highly doubt he was any closer than Cavill at that point. In the end, I'm so glad Cavill got the role instead of this guy because, to me, Manganiello looks nothing like either Clark Kent or Superman(there's more to the character than just being 6'4").

i can see him as a villain, Metallo, or even Parasite(Ross version), but Cavill was born to be Superman, glad Snyder/Nolan has him in mind and had him test (again even if he had the part back then), Cavill is Kal-El

@Blaze- The actors tested in replicas of the Reeve suit.

I cannot wait to see this guy dressed in the Red & Blue Costume, stand for Truth, Justice, and an American Way and his own country "Truth, Justice, and a British Way", remember this the Original Superman films were filmed at Pinewood Studios (London, England) back then.

@Superguy- Dude i totally agree with ya bro. Snyder actually went with the two main fan favorites! Both are great choices, I just wish Joe had chosen Superman over True Blood dammit. It's ok though, Cavill will OWN as Superman I'm sure of it =D

@Snyder- Thank you...just thank you!!!! This is just what I always wanted...a real and TRUE reboot for Superman. The only way to truly reboot o'l Big-Blue is from the ground-up. No bringing back same actors and no bringing back the same film continuity. Everything must be wiped clean and started all over again. ;D

@Talontd- what makes you think that Superman will be puny in the movie? Look at the shape Snyder had Gerard Butler get into for 300, or the lengths they went to make Billy Crudup look ripped in WATCHMEN.

I like Joe, and I do watch True Blood, which I love. He's however is not Superman material as far as acting chops. He's got the body, but I wouldn't have gone with him for a reboot. Henry don't disappoint me!!

If Snyder had plans to cast Cavill in 300, my take is that he had Cavill in mind to play Superman all along. Scheduling had nothing to do with Manganiello missing out on the part.

luvin the fan trailer but i agree i wish we could ge a little more built of an actor to play that but who knows maybe with a cgi suit and when he is in clark clothes it'll be baggy to over the buffness.....its just hard finding some who looks as handsome as supes with the brawn of the rock....and i miss routh as supes too just saw him in scot pilgrim, great movie, and routh's performance made me sad not being able to see him as supes bc he did some great action scenes in spvsw

There was an article here when the news first broke about the new movie, that the actor would be a television actor and that everyone would be pleasantly surprised. I think they knew who that wanted from the beginning, either way, I think the movie is headed in the right direction.

I dont think Superman should be huge anyway, he's powers aren't based on how much he pumps but the effect of the sun So him being well built but normal is sixe fine with me

Talontd@ I am with you 100%. For anyone that has met Cavill. He is "puny" and no Man of Steel. i don't care how much he works out, he still isn't the size that does Superman justice. Knowing he is smaller than me takes away any believability factor for him playing the role and people would laugh thinking I would be big enough to play Superman. Sure, they will make him look bigger on-screen, but I know better.

I am so tired of the "Superman gets his powers from the sun" comments. It doesn't change the fact that he is supposed to be and has been depicted as 6'4" and a physically imposing character, regardless of where he gets his powers from. Thor gets his powers from the Gods, does that mean it would be okay to cast PeeWee Herman in the role?

It's unfortunate but, We have a Superman and he's perfect. True Blood's an awesome show, I wouldn't have given it up for Superman.

It's a weird one, because I honestly believe Henry Cavill and Joe Mag...I cant spell his surname... would both have been good choices. We got Cavill - Great! If we'd have gotten Joe - Also great! I think the time right to finally leave behind the 60's inspired bumbling Clark Kent and Lois Lane love story and to deliver a Superman film (trilogy?)that plays out on screen like it does in the comics we all love.

It's a shame that he got a gig line True Blood and that may have scuppered his chances.

As for the suit, Snyder already stated that they used the old Donner versions costume for the screen test.

And I wish I could reach into my computer and [female dog]slap every retard who keeps saying Cavill isn't right for the part because 'he's punny'. THE GUY CAN ACT (that's why Snyder picked him), THE GUY CAN HIT THE GYM (like Butler & Hemsworth)! Stop being so f*****g stupid!

And as for Cavill not being 6ft4"...he's 6ft1" anyway so it hardly a height difference of Jackman proportions.

This is why they leave casting to the real producers and not fanboys who use no common sense

@talontd, i agree. People can say it doesn't matter, and that its not important to his powers, but thats the way superman is portrayed in the comics! this strong and courageous looking figre. Not some skinny pretty boy. But hey, maybe zack can get henry bigger, but even so, he's not even all that tall. Joe wouldve been a better choice

Captain@ He's slightly shorter than me and I am 6'1" tall. He also is narrower in frame than i am. Like I said, on-screen they will make him look the part. In reality, he's no Man of Steel, which is fine for most people, but the believability just won't be there for me. The new Wonder Woman is only an inch or so shorter than our big screen Superman. Alrighty then....

Joe would have been good, if his nose wasn't so crooked. As for the suit, why are people so against keeping the traditional look? The suit doesn't have to change to make him tougher, just him. He could still be the world's greatest hero and a bad ass, without being dark and gloomy. That's why we have Batman.
