POLL: What Did You Think Of MAN OF STEEL?

Zack Snyder's Man of Steel is on pace to do some serious damage at the box office but its come under fire by professional film critics. Currently, there's a perception that the general audience loved the film. Vote now to help determine if that's true.

Feature Opinion

We've been talking about Man of Steel for quite some time now. The critics, (the majority of them) don't believe Man of Steel was true to the character and that the film lacked humor (still rankles a bit when I see this, the Marvel way is not the ONLY way). Nevertheless, it's safe to say that the film is currently over-performing. Initially, estimates forecast an $80 million dollar opening weekend but that's since gone up to $100M and now even higher at ~$125M, with some reports speculating it could earn even more than that! But just because a film earns a lot of money doesn't necessarily prove that it's a 'good' film (plenty examples out there of this). Did you enjoy Man of Steel, was it the Superman film you were always waiting for? Or were you ever even anticipating a Superman film, after all, his popularity these days has waned considerably.

Simple story but I feel it worked. Some of the flashback scenes didn't work for me. That said awesome action. Modern take and excited for the DC Cinematic Universe.

It was an awesome movie. The main problem is the fact that it's actually more Superman than Superman. It's not the same Superman that people are used to. Plus you have to remember, opinions these days are blown way out of proportion because of the internet, so negative opinions are a dime a dozen now. If there's even the slightest thing that's not perfect about a movie, it instantly becomes a huge flaw and lowers its chances considerably.
Personally, I loved Man of Steel and I've seen it twice already. Hard-hitting action, the right emotional beats, huge open door for the DC cinematic universe. Hell, I wasn't even expecting them to mention the Phantom Zone by name. I was very impressed. The final blow in the final showdown had my jaw on the floor.

Saw it again for the second time with my girlfriend last night. Critics got this one totally wrong. Audience gave it a round of applause. Bring on the DCCU!!!

I'll have to go with a four. Had a couple of flaws, but I think it is the third best CBM origin movie origin of all time behind Batman Begins and Iron Man 1.

It was good! but i felt the scenes were rushed! and i wanted more of him growing on the farm! and the shots were 2 close up!

But Henry was Superman! a sequel should be 10 times better!

The movie was great. No it wasn't perfect, but how can people count that against it when NO MOVIE IS PERFECT! Not The DarK Knight. not the Avengers. Not even Citizen Cane or the Godfather.

I read about a dozen negative reviews before i saw the movie and they Had me looking for flaws that weren't there. Everyone has their opinion, i know, but that opinion can also be biased...

On thing that did get to me was why did Clark think he could fly when he had never flown before...? I mean he meets jor-el, finds out about krypton, puts on the suit and immediately tries to fly...

My little brother asked a good question. On Krypton they don't give birth naturally right? It obvious Jor and Laura had sex to make Superman. So is like having sex against the law on Krypton because its obvious having natural kids are.

I'm french so the movie is only released next week in my country but I can say this : it's not a big deal if a comic book movie is bashed by the critics because the only thing that really matter is the money the movie make. I really hope this genre of movie will continue to make money.

Concerning MOS,I'm sure it's a wonderful movie and doesn't deserve such unfair critics.

I just hope Man of steel 2 will not take that critics too seriously and make a "Marvel" movie like Iron Man Trilogy. I mean I love Iron Man but I feel Man of steel should never go that way; Superman must be taken seriously.

Thank you for reading :)

After watching it the first time in 2D, I'd have scored it as 4 Stars. However after watching it again in IMAX 3D it's definitely a 5 stars from me. This for me shows how good a film it is as normally when I watch a film for the 2nd time I spot things I don't like. Avengers was one if those loved it first time, still liked it on 2nd viewing but not as much.

jor-el and Lara probably watched their holograms have sex whilst knocking one out

or he just pulls out and seagulls her bangers

or maybe he like to enter from the rear...sure its not what nature intended but its something to inspire to

how come other than intelligence kryptonians and earthlings are exactly ALIKE..?? i don't think it's EVER explained in the movie. and how about kryptonians speak english. again with the filmmakers keep saying how GROUNDED IN REALITY their movies are supposed to be i can't help but to ask these questions that i'm supposed to discard and just accept.

THAT's why i think Marvel movies work better with the audience, EVEN with someone like THOR. who's an alien/god being who speaks english a la shakespearean play..but somehow, we're able to 'just accept' and go along for the FUN ride.

Jolt17 - 6/16/2013, 6:54 AM
I'd give it a 4-star rating, for being a good, yet flawed movie, and not exactly the Superman movie I've been wanting to see. I'm quite confident the sequel will be, though.

Then again, maybe I'll cut half a star from it, thanks to Goyer's dialogues.
EarOne
EarOne - 6/16/2013, 6:56 AM
i mean..LOOK ALIKE. how come we two different beings from different planets LOOK ALIKE..??
EarOne
EarOne - 6/16/2013, 6:57 AM
well..actually, nope. i do mean, why are we so much alike. i mean, look at how Lara gives birth. how are we sooooo much alike..??
Jolt17
Jolt17 - 6/16/2013, 6:57 AM
EarOne: The English bit did slightly bother me (although I've never expected anything more), but...well, the comics have never explained why Kryptonians look exactly like humans, either! That I really can't complain about.
Jolt17
Jolt17 - 6/16/2013, 7:02 AM
There have been many sci-fi outings that depict aliens that look just like humans, too, and thus I don't feel it's fair to make the explanation part as this particular movie's duty - especially when it's an adaptation of a comic book series that has run for years with the exactly same idea, yet with none of the problems.

7/10. not enough character development and too much cgi puppets knocking down buildings in unnecessarily long and repetitive action sequences. hope the shaky-cam /fake documentary thing doesn't become the DCU's signature cinematography, cause that gimmick has been already over used to death in movies and TV....
LEVITIKUZ
LEVITIKUZ - 6/16/2013, 7:03 AM
If Thor can be human and speak English, why question Superman?

Hey Eko's back.

Bust out the Colt 45 cipher.

Don't know why I said Colt 45. Watching Empire Strikes Back and saw Lando. First thing I thought of I guess.
