SUPERMAN: LEGACY Director James Gunn Shares Storyboard Sketch For DCU Reboot

Though it doesn't reveal very much, Superman: Legacy director James Gunn has taken to social media to share an official storyboard sketch for his upcoming DCU reboot.

It's probably going to be a long time before we get an official promo image for Superman: Legacy, but director James Gunn has shared a storyboard sketch to Threads.

It's not exactly a detailed drawing, and we're not sure which character this is supposed to be (Lex Luthor maybe? He looks bald!), but Gunn did also explain a little more about the shot and his process.

"Spoiler??!! Well, probably not. I’m constantly drawing Superman Legacy shots and storyboards all over everything. Here’s one I just sent to my department heads to understand how tight a shot was going to be we had been discussing."

When asked what was going on in the shot, Gunn responded, “The camera is moving back with the character. For me, the full arrows are camera movement, the thin arrows are subject movement.”

Recently, Gunn offered an update on where the Man of Steel's costume and the film’s music score currently stand.

“The costume is mostly done but we’re still going back and forth on some elements,” the filmmaker said. “A lot of the score – maybe even most of the major themes – have already been written.”

As for the movie's composer, Gunn revealed that they haven't been announced yet because he’s not sure if a deal has closed.

“I have to check,” he said. “(And yes I know that sounds crazy since so much of the score has been written, but when you’re riding the waves of inspiration, what are you going to do? I wrote most of Peacemaker and all of Creature Commandos before I had a closed deal!)

Superman: Legacy will star David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, along with Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Guy Gardner, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.

More recently, Sara Sampaio signed on to play Lex's assistant/lover Eve Teschmacher, and Skyler Gisondo has been cast as Jimmy Olsen.

Members of the anti-hero team The Authority will also appear, and we recently learned that María Gabriela de Faría (Animal Control) has been cast as Angela Spica/The Engineer.

Supergirl is also rumored to make her debut ahead of her own Woman of Tomorrow movie, but that's yet to be confirmed.

We're still not sure exactly how these other superheroes will factor into the story, but Gunn has previously revealed that Superman's dual-life as both Clark Kent and the Man of Steel will be explored in the film, suggesting that these characters will be his "super friends." Whether they'll be part of an actual team or not remains to be seen.

“Superman: Legacy is the true foundation of our creative vision for the DC Universe. Not only is Superman an iconic part of DC lore, he is also a favorite character for comic book readers, viewers of earlier movies, and fans around the world," said Gunn during the DCU slate announcement. "I can’t wait to introduce our version of Superman who audiences will be able to follow and get to know across films, movies, animation and gaming.”

Production is scheduled to get underway early next year.

Gunn has a very good track record. I'm kind of hopeful to not learn anything about this film and just go in blind. This is the film I'm most excited about by a long way.

It’s a close up because Clark Kent hears something off in the distance and he’s reacting to it. It’s time to change into Superman.

@Timerider - It's a scene from Baby Kal's point of view. Something similar to this.

@Timerider - Also, I want to keep the origin scene short. Four fleeting images and that's it.

Who's scoring the film???
DarthLaney
DarthLaney - 12/17/2023, 6:18 AM
Hopefully the score is done because they are using the John Williams Superman theme. This would by itself go a long way to selling this new version to me.
Timerider
Timerider - 12/17/2023, 1:48 PM
@DarthLaney - I doubt it, they tried that in Superman Returns. They might use a small cue of his theme to pay homage to the legacy of Superman on the big screen, but other than that, he’ll have his own music and theme, just as Man of Steel did.
