Looks like writers Tom Waltz and Erik Burnham have been chewing on this one for a while and felt like now is the best time to do it as both franchises are celebrating their 30th Anniversary.

Didn't these beloved turtles already do a crossover with the Power Rangers?

Been waiting for this for three decades.
Closest they've come to crossing over before has been the Cartoon All Stars anti-drugs video, Infestation/Infestation 2 and X-Files: Conspiracy, which established that the IDW TMNT and the IDW GhostBusters are in the same universe.
