Episode 02 Of The CW's FLASH Titled "The Fastest Man Alive"

Thanks to actor Rick Cosnett, who portrays Eddie Thawyne on The CW's Flash, we know the title of episode 02 is "The Fastest Man Alive". Flash: The Fastest Man Alive was a DC Comics title that ran in 2006 and starred Bart Allen (not Barry). Interestingly enough, Arrow showrunner Marc Guggenheim also had a stint as a writer on the series, contributing issues 09 thru 13. With the pilot already hinting at the concept of time travel, could an appearance from Barry Allen's grandson be in the works?

Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg are credited with the story concept with Kreisberg and Geoff Johns penning the script. David Nutter directs the episode.

how does this title suggest Bart? The Flash is commonly known as The Fastest Man Alive. It's like "The Man of Steel" or "The Caped Crusader"

@richardGrayson

At the end of the pilot (or the beginning I can't remember) Barry even said, "My name is Barry Allen...I'm the fastest man alive." I don't see how that suggests an appearance by Bart.

Yeah, I don't see Bart being hinted at as much as it's Barry's claim to fame/ call tag.

Can't wait to see what they're gonna do with Firestorm. Now if only they can get Jeffrey Dean Morgan over on Arrow to play Ted Grant and find/save/train Laurel at Grant's Gym, then everything would be awesome.

Alright, so Wonder Woman was on top of her house sunbathing in the nude one day. Soon Superman comes flying overhead and spots her.

"Hmmm...I could zip down there and have my way then fly off before she even notices!" he thought.

And so he did just that. Afterwards, Wonder Woman leans up and looks around...

"What in Themiscyra was that?!?" she asks outloud.
"I don't know, but my butt sure does hurt!" replies The Invisible Man.

Heh. That title isn't a clue about anything. Pretty much what one would expect actually

Over here in New Zealand; just saw the final episode of Arrow Season 2 last night. And during the last hour there were adverts for both the Gotham and Flash series coming in a few months. That's exciting, because you never know in this part of the world when, or even if, some shows will come to our shores.

Okay, first of all, I love that title. I mean, it's a perfect title for the second episode of the show (considering that the first episode was titled "Pilot")...

But good GOD, it is a leap in logic to suspect that it's somehow a reference to Bart Allen. One that defies all rational explanation.

True, Bart appeared in an ongoing series titled "The Flash: The Fastest Man Alive" in 2006... but the book lasted all of thirteen issues. Furthermore, the subtitle had appeared on countless Flash comics before that; it had absolutely no connection to Bart Allen specifically. Like Richard Grayson pointed out in the first comment, that's just the Flash's nickname. Like, for ANY of them.

Hell, it appears on the cover of the very first Flash story from 1940.

So again, why the hell would this IN ANY WAY be a clue to the inclusion of Bart Allen, a character with a ridiculously convoluted origin and backstory, in the second episode of a brand-new T.V. show (that's presumably trying to tell its OWN story and reel in more than just the most pathetically dedicated of comic book geeks)?

Sorry, I just... I just can't abide such broad, baseless speculation with such meager evidence. Journalistic integrity, et cetera.

they will introduce Wally West before Bart is introduced

maybe Wally will even team up with Roy Harper in an episode?

BTW, when I was mentioning the "most pathetically dedicated of comic book geeks" in my previous comment, I was, of course, referring to myself as well. Just in case anyone felt like pointing that out.

@RichardGrayson: I am definitely looking forward to Wally West showing up at some point on this show! They don't even have to make him Kid Flash-- I'd be cool with him just showing up as a supporting character (and/or possibly finding out who the Flash is and helping him out every once in a while, a la pre-Mirakuru Roy Harper in Arrow).

... What I'm NOT looking forward to is the inevitable onslaught of "you can't make Wally West black!" comments that are sure to follow his casting announcement.

@thefox

i've accepted a black Wally West, and i'm all for it now, as long as he's portrayed like Post Crisis Wally. I hate New 52 Wally.

It looks like Arrow/The Flash are putting together their own version of the Justice League... Arrow, Canary, The Flash, Atom, and Firestorm are all going to be on the Justice League... what if they introduced the Teen Titans as well?

Deathstroke's son Joey has been mentioned already, and fanboys will know him to be the TT member Jericho.

Wally will probably introduced soon, and Roy Harper already exists. That's 3 Teen Titans members, AND Deathstroke, HIVE and Brother Blood have been established already.

Brother Blood died on Arrow, but Brother Blood is a title passed down from generation to generation. I'd love to see a more comics accurate Brother Blood. I wasn't very impressed with Arrow's take. With the recent news that they will be redoing Count Vertigo with the great actor Peter Stormare, that could mean they may introduce a superior Brother Blood later on.

They have planted a lot of seeds already for both the Teen Titans and the Justice League. I think both teams will show up in the Arrow/The Flash universe
TheFox
TheFox - 7/10/2014, 7:09 PM
@RichardGrayson: Yeah, I agree with you about Brother Blood... He was a semi-decent villain when the season's big bad was a mystery, but all the guy ever amounted to was a cut-rate Scarecrow lookalike who turned out to be Slade's political pawn. There was some interesting character stuff going on there (his backstory, his motivations, his whacked-out sense of honor), but it all kinda came to nothing when they just killed him off.

And concerning Count Vertigo, I'm disappointed that they're not bringing Seth Gabel back... but if he had to be replaced, they couldn't have picked anyone better than Peter friggin' Stormare! Now I can't wait to see what they have in store for the character...

But as for the Justice League/Teen Titans idea... I gotta say, I'm ambivalent about super-teams in the DCU in general, so the idea of them popping up on these shows kinda worries me.

I like the idea of introducing various characters from all over the comics into the shows (mostly because Arrow's been doing such a damn good job of it), but I still feel like the focus should be on individual characters... not just because it produces better stories, but because the CW's not working with infinite resources here! A super-team would just be too big and expensive a concept to work on the small screen (at least, without significantly scaling it down, a la Smallville).

A Teen Titans series might work, if they hop to it IMMEDIATELY (after all, Colton Haynes ain't getting any younger); it is, after all, a teen drama where the main characters just happen to be superheroes. (Hell, that'd be right up the CW's alley.) But Justice League is just too big, too expansive a concept to work well on live-action T.V., so I think that's a concept better alluded to than attempted.

Besides, it's not like we're not getting a Justice League movie soon anyway. Warner Bros. seems to be splitting its properties down the middle, putting the big guns on film and exploiting the B-listers on television. Frankly, I'm perfectly happy with that. The big screen can HAVE the Justice League, as long as Arrow and The Flash (and the exceptional creative team behind them) get free reign over the small.

That clearly says #102... Or am i missing something.
TheFox
TheFox - 7/10/2014, 8:30 PM
@Koala0226: Yeah, that's just how television episodes are numbered. The first number is the season, the second two are the episode. So "#102" means season one, episode two. The tenth episode of season one would be "#110", the first episode of season two would be "#201", and so on.
