One 2023 Superhero Movie Had A Staggering 45 Writers Involved (And It Was Probably THE FLASH)

Believe it or not, one upcoming superhero movie that will arrive in 2023 ended up being worked on by more than 45 writers, and we have a pretty good idea it's troubled DC Comics adaptation The Flash...

2023 is shaping up to be an exciting year for superhero movie fans. Thanks to a number of recent delays, we're getting three DC movies (Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, The Flash, and Blue Beetle) along with three from Sony Pictures (Kraven the Hunter, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Madame Web), and three from Marvel Studios (Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, The Marvels).

However, it appears that at least one of those required a lot of work.

According to a report from Deadline, "A high-profile comic book movie set to debut next year recently had its final script submitted to the WGA for screenwriting credit, and insiders tell Deadline that a staggering 45 writers had some sort of involvement with the script at various stages through the development process."

It's noted that it's "basically impossible" that all of those writers will be credited. While it's common for some movies to have upwards of 20 writers working on a script at various stages (not at the same time, obviously), this is an unprecedented number, but which of the movies is the trade referring to.

The obvious answer here is The Flash. Several high profile writers have already taken a crack at the movie, with even controversial star Ezra Miller teaming up with Grant Morrison at one point. It's a project that Warner Bros. has struggled to crack, hence why it's missed several release dates (going back as far as 2018) and we've actually lost track of the creative teams attached at one time or another.

This doesn't necessarily mean the movie will be a mess, but it also leaves us wondering exactly what state this blockbuster will be in when The Flash finally races into theaters on June 23, 2023.

@Krav - Honestly that doesn't even sound that hard. The flashpoint paradox movie was 1h21m.

Instead of just individually naming the writers during the credit roll they can just put "The Inmates at the Hawaii'an County Corrections Center."

I think two writers is enough, but three to five writers can still work too. Forty-five is a bit much though. Thats like every writer wrote a scene each

I hate that Michael Keaton decided to return to this as Batman instead of a Batman Beyond movie. Of course, that's not his fault considering DC/WB will probably never make one.

The Flash seems like the only possible CBM this could be

That film has been in development hell for years and had like 6 different directors attached to it at some point, and I'd imagine each new director would want to change things and get a different rewrites

Damn. A couple dozen more people in the writers' room and they may have been able to make this a good movie. Too bad the fire marshal got involved.
