THE FLASH: Ben Affleck Says He Had "Fun" Playing Batman Again After "Difficult" Time On JUSTICE LEAGUE

Ben Affleck has spoken about his decision to reprise the role of Batman in The Flash for the first time, revealing that he had "a great time" stepping back into the cape and cowl after Justice League.

We've known that Ben Affleck is set to return as Batman for the Andy Muschietti-directed The Flash movie for a while now, but the actor has spoken about his decision to reprise the role for the first time during an interview with Variety.

“It was a really nice way to revisit that as the prior experience had been difficult,” Affleck told the trade at a tastemaker screening of his upcoming George Clooney-directed film, The Tender Bar. “This was really lovely. Really fun.”

It's no secret that Affleck - and most of his castmates, for that matter - had a rough time shooting Justice League when Joss Whedon stepped in to finish the movie in Zack Snyder's absence (the actor was also dealing with some personal troubles), and while he would later get the chance to return and film some additional scenes for the recent "Snyder Cut," he clearly relished the opportunity to take up the cape and cowl again under slightly better circumstances.

“I had a great time,” he added. “I’m probably under some gag order that I’m not even aware that I probably just violated and I’m now going to be sued.”

Indeed, aside from the initial trade reports, Affleck's return as the Dark Knight has never actually been made "official" until now - though we did see some set photos and video of his stunt double shooting action scenes in-costume as the Caped Crusader.

Christina Hodson wrote the The Flash's script, with Michael Disco and Marianne Jenkins on board as executive producers. Plot details are still under wraps, but the story is expected to be at least partially influenced by the Flashpoint comic book arc.

In addition to Affleck and Miller, Sasha Calle will make her DCEU debut as Supergirl, Michael Keaton will also be back as his take on Batman, and Kiersey Clemons will reprise the role of Iris West.

The Flash is scheduled to race into theaters on November 4, 2022.

Huge Batfleck supporter so Im glad he had fun this but you can tell that the role and his expierences took it's toll on him unfortunately which is sad to me because he's my absolute favorite Batman besides Kevin Conroy. While part of me soes hope that this is a new beginning for him with Batman I have to acknowledge that at the same I only want that if he's able and willing to do but either if The Flash is his final portrayal as Batman I'll be happy that they'll give him a proper send off.

Affleck did a good job with a crappy script (“WHY DID YOU SAY THAT NAME?!”) and I would be fine with him playing Batman again, but it’s clear that the guy has so many personal problems already weighing him down. He smokes like a chimney, has been in-and-out of rehab, is constantly bouncing around between relationships, and his weight is yo-yoing like crazy.

I get the impression that he thought Batman would be an easy, slam-dunk role that would garner him some easy acclaim and paychecks… and instead he became a meme. Maybe, in 5-10 years, if he can get his life in order, he can try again?

@santoanderson - I don't think he thought it would be easy. Apparently it took a lot of convincing for him to take the role as he thought he wasn't right for it.

Still think he was greatly cast for an older Bruce Wayne/Batman, so I'm glad he found some fun in returning to it. Too bad it's for a Flash movie I have no interest in aside from the two Batmen and Supergirl.
