The Flash is set to race into theaters in just over two weeks, and while early reactions to the Scarlet Speedster's first solo outing have been very positive, the movie has been mired in controversy thanks to its troubled star.
We don't need to rehash everything that Ezra Miller has been accused of at this point, suffice it to say that the actor has been hit with a number of very serious - and rather despicable - allegations. How much general audiences know or care remains to be seen, but many are in favor of Miller being replaced as the DCU's take on Barry Allen going forward.
However, director Andy Muschietti has now confirmed that, if the movie does get a sequel, Miller will remain on board as the Fastest Man Alive.
“If [a sequel] happens, yes,” the filmmaker said about Miller returning for another film while chatting to the Discourse podcast. “I don’t think there’s anyone that can play that character as well as they did. The other depictions of the character are great, but this particular vision of the character, they just excelled in doing it. And, as you said, the two Barrys – it feels like a character that was made for them.”
Producer Barbara Muschietti added: “In principal photography, Ezra was brilliant and the most committed and the most professional [actor]. Ezra gave everything for this role – physically, creatively, emotionally. They were absolutely supreme.”
Of course, the decision may not be theirs to make. Depending on the level of backlash, DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran may choose to sever ties with Miller and replace him in the role.

"Directed by Andy Muschietti, The Flash features Barry Allen traveling back in time in order to change events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to help. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian…albeit not the one he’s looking for.
Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?"
The Flash is produced by Barbara Muschietti and Michael Disco, with a screenplay by Christina Hodson, and a screen story by John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein and Joby Harold, based on characters from DC. Warner Bros. Pictures presents a Double Dream/a Disco Factory production of an Andy Muschietti film.
