The Flash is just days away from speeding into theaters, and there's already been talk of a sequel. As you may recall, it was recently reported that Warner Bros. has a completed draft by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick (Aquaman) that features Michael Keaton's Batman and Sasha Calle's Supergirl.
Asked where things stand with the follow-up by Total Film, producer Barbara Muschietti responded, "That I think was a bit premature. We're not really familiar with that draft. I think that draft has been around for a while."
The Flash's director, Andy Muschietti, refused to comment on those rumours about The Brave and the Bold, but his wife and producing partner made some surprising remarks when asked about this movie being a farewell to Ben Affleck's Dark Knight.
"How do you know it's his last time?" she asked before Andy weighed in with, "The truth is that the multiverse allows everything to happen. As Bruce Wayne says [in The Flash], there are infinite timelines and inevitable intersections, and that's one of the things that excited me about portraying the multiverse in this movie, is that it opens up the possibility to bring people back the moment you'd least expect."
"So I would like to think that it's not a send-off," the filmmaker teased, "we'll see."
In the same interview, the duo was asked about Tom Cruise's endorsement of The Flash. While he's never commented publicly on the movie, a story ran in the trades suggesting he was a big fan of what he saw from the Scarlet Speedster's first big screen solo outing.
Asked if that increased the pressure to deliver, Andy said: "No. If anything, [we got] more confidence in the thing that we did, because the movie was finished by the time that [Cruise and King] saw it, so it was a confidence boost if anything."
Barbara adds, "It's a very cynical industry, and to hear people that really have no skin in the game, because they have nothing to gain, just say something that lovely – in the case of Tom Cruise, he called us, talked for 15 minutes, praising Andy, praising the film, and it just feels very good because we really work very hard to make these movies."
The Flash arrives in theaters on June 16.
