THE LONE RANGER: Concept Art From Johnny Depp Flop & An Abandoned TV Project

The Lone Ranger is epic... an epic failure. It's expected to lose the Mouse House $150 to 200 million smackaroonies. Ouch! There is a bright spot, we got some cool key frame art for the film, and early concept art developed for a television show idea. Neato!

After Gore Verbinski's putrid film, The Lone Ranger, was released concept artist, Keron Grant revealed that he had worked on a proposed Lone Ranger television show for producer Eric Calderon. Hollywood ended up seeing the artwork for the revamped Lone Ranger and some of it influenced Disney's film.

From producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski, the team behind the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, comes Disney/Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ “The Lone Ranger,” a thrilling adventure infused with action and humor, in which the famed masked hero is brought to life through new eyes. Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice—taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.

Disney's The Lone Ranger is directed by Gore Verbinski, from a screenplay written by Ted Elliott, Terry Rossio, Eric Aronson and Justin Haythe. The film stars: Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer, Tom Wilkinson, William Fichtner, Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale, Ruth Wilson and Helena Bonham Carter. It will gallop into theaters July 3, 2013.

The general public enjoys drivel like "The Wolverine", but this thing flops?? I thought it was excellent. Nobody even gave it a chance.

if it had been ANYONE but Depp, it wouldve been 100 times better. kinda makes me wish they HAD gone with the original werewolf premise...

They turned the Lone Ranger into a bumbling fool. It deserved to fail.

@B00uWhore692 The Wolverine hasn't even come out yet and you're already judging it because we got 2 bad X-Men movies out of 5 (Wolverine and The Last Stand) and because you most likely disagree with the same creative choice like everyone else (the leather costumes).

My son and I liked it a lot. And I thought I'd hate it.

@HelaGood, Agreed. Should have went with werewolves.

The only good bit was the last twenty minutes. The comedy was like kicking a deadhorse in which ironically one of the characters does kick a dead horse and the scene is supposed to be played up for laughs.

This whole film was a train wreck.

The movie was OK - barely. It suffered from trying to focus so much on the antics of the characters without trying to tell a compelling story. I think campy movies will only get you so far.

Nobody cares about the Lone Ranger nor wants to see a movie of it. I think it would've flopped even if it was amazing.

It was ok but nothing great, and how did the budget of this spiral out of control anyway? Never knew a Western film could cost so much.

why did the Lone Ranger fail? Partly because you could clearly see from the ads that it was nothing but a generic summer blockbuster. Lots of explosions. Ridiculous stunts. Formula story (fight, chase, fight, chase, fight, big chase, big fight, credits). Jack Sparrow with a bird on his head. Call it Wild Wild West part 2. Nothing here we haven't seen done better a hundred times. Nothing special and unique going on that makes you want to go see it. I was saying time and time again as we learned more about this movie that it was going to be a train wreck, and I was proven right.

Well if they made it more like the original and to to was the sidekick people who remembered it may have taken their kids and grandchildren to see it. But everyone I know that remembers and likes the line ranger was turned off by the trailer.

That artwork for a TV Show looks awesome... Why the shit didn't that get made? Like for real it would've been a cool gritty western series the likes of Deadwood! :D

The lone ranger was concieved by guys of a certain generation who thought it was still hip but it hasn't been hip since TV was in black and white at least Batman and Superman which were of the same era progressed through the ages and stayed relavant to the masses , sorry but I didn't need a crystal ball to predict this flopper rooney .

The Lone Ranger is a GREAT, GREAT movie. I loved it. The poster nailbiter111 is a liar who never saw the movie. Anyone who's actually seen the film knows the script keeps getting better and better all the way through its amazing finale.

The movie goes from good to better to great over the course of its 2.5 hours. One of the best movies I've ever seen and definitely the most enjoyable movie I've seen this year.

This is a Lone Ranger begins story line. It's called character development, folks. The John Reid at the beginning of the film is not the John Reid (aka Lone Ranger) at the end. He isn't truly the Lone Ranger until the scene in the second half of the film where he's planting explosives on the bridge. Great movie.
