Over the weekend, the news broke that yet another attempt to re-adapt The Crow for the big screen is currently underway, with It actor Bill Skarsgård set to play the lead role of Eric Draven. Now, we have word on which actress has been cast as Draven's fiancée.
THR reports that British singer-songwriter, record producer, dancer, video director and actress Tahliah Debrett Barnett, better known as FKA Twigs, has boarded the project as the "co-lead."
In James O'Carr's original story, Shelly Webster doesn't last very long after being savagely raped and murdered by a gang of thugs, but it sounds like the character will have a more significant presence in this movie. Whether that means Shelly survives the attack or is resurrected along with Draven remains to be seen.
Snow White and the Huntsman and Ghost in the Shell director Rupert Sanders will helm the film, which has reportedly been in pre-production for some time. Cameras are scheduled to roll this June.
Multiple filmmakers have attempted to get a retelling of this gothic tale of the ground, and while some fans will surely be overjoyed to hear that The Crow has been given a new lease of life, the news may not be met with a particularly enthusiastic response from everyone. Many feel Alex Proyas’ 1994 take on the material starring the late Brandon Lee did a perfect job of adapting the story and should be left alone.
Twigs is best-known as a recording artist, but recently made inroads into acting with an appearance in Alma Har'e's Honey Boy. She also has Brighton Beach on the way.
