THE CROW Reboot Flies Again With IT Star Bill Skarsgård As Eric Draven; Rupert Sanders To Direct

After spending years in development hell and going through countless reboot attempts, a new take on The Crow is taking flight, with It star Bill Skarsgård in line to play the lead role of Eric Draven.

We've heard this before (several times), but a reboot of The Crow is now in development, and has actually been in pre-production for quite a while. Cameras are scheduled to roll in June.

THR reports that It actor Bill Skarsgård will take on the lead role of Eric Draven, with Snow White and the Huntsman and Ghost in the Shell director Rupert Sanders behind the camera. Edward R. Pressman and Malcolm Gray will co-produce.

James O’Barr's iconic comic series focused on a man named Eric Draven who, along with his fiance, is brutally murdered by a gang of thugs. One year later, he is resurrected by a mystical force in the form of a crow, and sets out to exact his vengeance.

Multiple filmmakers have attempted to get a retelling of this gothic tale of the ground, and while some fans will surely be overjoyed to hear that this re-adaptation has been given a new lease of life, the news may not be met with a particularly enthusiastic response from everyone. Many feel Alex Proyas’ 1994 take on the material starring the late Brandon Lee did a perfect job of adapting the story and should be left alone.

What do you guys make of this news? Do you think a take on The Crow with this creative team involved has potential?

This has been in developmental hell about as long as the Highlander reboot. 😝

Rather true or not no point in getting excited. We live in a time when everything gets remade or rebooted while hollywood is at it's lowest quality wise.

Outside of Marvel i don't get hyped for anything anymore. 9 times out of 10 it'll be a mockery of what came before it.

@Dope21 - You're correct, but don't ever assume these remakes are mockeries unintentionally. This is modern Hollywood "deconstructing" with the intent of demoralizing. It's gotten pretty old pretty fast imo.

29 years ago yesterday Brandon passed away. Seems a tad distasteful to announce this a day later. Even worse if it’s an April Fools joke.

This actually might be real, a lot of sites are reporting the same thing
so on the casting

on director

get someone like frede alvarez or andy muschietti, someone with a horror background, not the director that started the short lived trend of crappy fairy tale action movies and and decent at best adaption of a ground breaking anime

if this is a joke that a lot of sites are in on, get this guy for the role for real

@BlackBeltJones -I I hope this movie is going to be good I love the original. My personal opinion I think Brandon Lee play Eric perfectly. This your focus on a new character in the same universe. When people complain about MCU movies or comic book movies in general my girl when Hollywood do come up with something is usually a remakes or reboots nobody asked for! Love that Gordon Chan and Jet Li's Fist Of Legend ✊🏼👊🏼.

@mrbioshock1984 - I just think the original is so special and lightning in a bottle. The development bell this has been in is a sign to me

I would definitely continue it but maybe as an animated property

@BlackBeltJones - I just feel like we have seen this tried so many times, between the TV shows and endless sequels. The comic, though cool, would have probably faded into obscurity if not for the original film. As you said, lightning in a bottle: the movie was genuinely good, the subculture was perfect for it, and Lee's actual death mixed with the themes of death and resurrection gave the film a mystique that can't be replicated, but boy, will they keep trying.

This is terrible casting! They should cast Hero Fiennes Tiffin who seems naturally Goth!

Skaragard is gonna need to pump up, he has the face to pull off that look (especially with the male up) but hes gonna need to hit the gym to look anywhere near Eric Draven.

If this is not an April Fools joke then that's a good casting. We already know that Bill looks good with a white makeup.

Eh, he's a way better choice than Jason Momoa. Although, couldn't they find a better director?

I feel like The Crow would work as an adult animated series in the same vein as Spawn from the old HBO days or even Invincible.

@Dope21 -

I'm just scratching my head at the hypocrisy of it all.

I mean, he's asked to leave the ceremony, refuses, apologizes to everyone else BUT Chris Rock himself, accepts the Oscar with a standing ovation, celebrates, posts a written (clearly dictated and impersonal) apology, and THEN leaves on his own terms after word got out that the Academy themselves thought of expelling him?

F#ck this guy!

Bill Skarsgard would be an interesting choice, I have confidence he could pull it off and has a better physic for it than Momoa did. It's the director that gives me pause, his previous movies are shit; competently directed is the best I can say of his previous efforts.

He's the guy that turned this:

Into this:

So competent is being generous.

I think the Crow would be better as a show at this point. There is only one good movie so far. Just makes a series.

@TheSuperMex - They had a show based on the movie. I think a new series would be much better. They can really flesh it out and let the original movie be it’s own thing.
