THOR: THE DARK WORLD Prelude Tells More Of Thor's Story In THE AVENGERS

Spoilers for the prelude comic book to Marvel Studio's Thor: The Dark World have popped up online - bridging the gap between The Avengers and the discord spreading across the nine realms in Thor's upcoming sequel.

If you were wondering what Thor was up to during the first 30 minutes-or-so of The Avengers, this first prelude issue to Thor: The Dark World will have the answers you are seeking. Full on Spoilers below so turn away now if you plan on purchasing the comic tomorrow and wish to know nothing about the story.

The issue picks up some time after the events of the first Thor film. With the Bifrost in ruins thanks to the climactic battle between Loki and Thor, the enemies of Asgard are seizing the opportunity to exploit an adversarial weakness. It's implied that Hogun will play a significant role in Vanaheim's conflict with The Marauders as he is Vanir not Asgardian. Stuck in Asgard, Thor keeps a watchful eye on Jane Foster through the all-seeing abilities of Heimdall. Jane is also keeping busy, she's working on a device that will create a wormhole which will allow Thor to return. She builds a prototype machine but it fails spectacularly. This is probably how Thor will return to Earth in the film and how the other Asgardians will be able to get to the other Nine Realms.

The comic then fast forwards to one year later, with The Realm Eternal still in repair mode. Everyone has pressing concerns about looming conflicts with the Trolls, Marauders, Badoon and Ice Giants and have seemingly forgotten about Loki, having written him off for dead. Except for his mother Frigga who uses her powers to locate her foster-son in Chituari space with Thanos, The Other and their army. Its Frigga who alerts Odin and Thor to Loki's plan regarding the Tesseract which prompts Odin to lead Thor to a room with a large "Dark Energy" generator. However, harnessing this power will have unspecified negative consequences on the All-father and Thor. Indeed we see Thor arrive on Earth or Midgard if you will, but he crashed into a mountain and is badly damaged. So it would appear that while we saw Loki arrive and get taken into custody by The Avengers in the early beginnings of the film, Thor was crash-landed, unconscious and reeling from the effects of the Dark Energy. And that's the end of Part one of the two issue limited series. I'm hoping that the next issue will show what effect the Dark Energy had on the All-Father and what's happening in The Realm Eternal post-Avengers.

Sort of has a classic feel to the art with the broad shoulders and such.

It's a shame the Man of Steel prequel couldn't get good art like this one!

Cool! I always thought the Thor knew Loki was alive because he had Heimdell look after Selvig and Jane(like it was mentioned) and saw Loki's attack at the beginning of The Avengers movie.

I hate them referring to the realms as planets or systems.

FOH with that marvel! Let the mythology stand!

Awesome points. The dark energy thing was something the avengers haters were nitpicking. I remember saying it probably had some ill effect, with this name and the joy Loki talks about it.

@KneelBeforeFEAR

In all honesty marvel could get away from it cause not alot of people know too much about Norse Mythology, Lets be real Greek Mythology is the most known one in western civilization. Now in Thor i always said if they were doing a New Gods film they should look at thor DC for how to pull off the new gods.

But people aying WW should look at thor [frick] NO why? You dont pull where aliens with Greek Mythology your gonna have to go with Dimensional Beings and thats it. Ill you why the general audience who know Greek Mythology are used to Greek Mythology being Supernatural/Magical the whole were aliens wouldnt sit well with the audience it would seem extremely oddi could see General Audience memebers bithching about Zeus being ET. So the Public many times view Greek Mythology has Magical and Fantasy they never view it has Cosmic.

The New Percy Jackson movies coming out even though Hollywood has been [frick]ing up Greek Mythology -__- perhaps the biggest obsticale of WW is getting Greek Myths right IMO, at least they have and keep the fantasy of Greek Mythology cause the public always percieved greek myth has magical not aliens. So WW should look at stuff like God Of War or Lord of the Rings for inspiration, Not the THOR MOVIE.

My brother has this Theory which i hope its not what marvel doing but he thinks marvel may make it look like the Asgardians are a sister race too the Eternals which i prey to god Marvel does not do. I dont even know if the celestial will exist to be honest. The whole Asgadians made the Cosmic Cube i call bullshit the Celestial probably met the Asgardians many years ago.

@KneelBeforeFEAR from this prequel comic are they trying to make THor some kind of New God from Jack Kirbys Fourth World and DC comics cause thats what it looks like to be honest with you.

I love the MCU books they've been making (with the exception for Thor as it was extremely rushed with no sense of storytelling whatsoever), but I really wish they'd do more both for the sake of more but also so they can stop raping the MU proper with the Ultimate and MCU bleeding its way into just about everything. For every step forward Marvel takes, they take two or three back every time, I swear...

i honestly wish they would someday get to film some of these 'extra' scenes..like the one where Gen. Ross first meets Tony. i still think Thunderbolt shoulda shown up in the Avengers movie. his absence just made NO sense.

Dark energy generator? Bah. Shouldv'e just had Odin 'conjure' it, as the Avengers reference said. That's too much science, not enough magic for me

@dellamorte

How is filling in plot holes placating fans?

Seems like it was premeditated with Loki mentioning the dark energy in Avengers.

That's getting me pumped for Thor 2. I was genuinely surprised at how much I enjoyed the first Thor. Loving how we may see more of the nine realms in this movie! Now if it can drop some bread crumbs that shows Thanos's influence or potential run-up to Avengers 2 than I'm sold.

Yes! So Thor 2 is the true beginning of Phase 2. I didn't hate IM 3 but it definitely wasn't the start of Phase 2.
