When Marvel Studios finally announced that a Thunderbolts movie is on the way, fans were understandably thrilled by the news. Unfortunately, the roster reveal definitely underwhelmed last summer.
With a team consisting of Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, U.S. Agent, Ghost, Taskmaster, they're mostly Super Soldiers, meaning the group lacks variety and many of the heroes/villains who feature in the Thunderbolts comic books. As a result, this movie feels a lot like a sequel to Black Widow and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier!
That may or may not be a bad thing, but there was more disappointment earlier this week when a rumour started doing the rounds suggesting Hannah John-Kamen's Ghost had been cut.
No reason as to why was provided, though there were rumblings it could be down to scheduling issues or script changes (which didn't make much sense when the actress was on hand at D23 to hype the movie). Now, though, another reliable insider claims that Ghost is still part of Thunderbolts!
This just goes to show how social media "scoops" can take on a life of their own, spreading misinformation in the process. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people on Twitter who seem to take pleasure in teasing fans with inside information (usually by posting a GIF or talking in circles), and while they often share accurate information, this is why it's best to take all rumours with a pinch of salt!
As always, you should make sure to keep a close eye on ComicBookMovie.com so we can keep you updated when these rumours drop...and when they're confirmed or debunked!
Thunderbolts' confirmed cast members include Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Florence Pugh as Yelena Boleva, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, and Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster.
Written by Eric Pearson and directed by Jake Schreier, Thunderbolts is set to be released in theaters on July 26, 2024.
