The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Transformers: Age of Extinction is now the second instalment in the four part franchise to hit $1 billion at the worldwide box office. Despite the fact that Paramount Pictures will receive only 25% of it, the movie was helped a great deal by an amazing performance in China where it grossed over $300 million. Domestically, it has earned $241.2 million, a franchise low. However, including those Chinese numbers, Age of Extinction has taken a whopping $763.8 million overseas. "Time and again, Michael has delivered pictures that audiences around the globe truly love," said Paramount chairman-CEO Brad Grey in a statement. "Along with the immensely talented and versatile Mark Wahlberg, the great Steven Spielberg as executive producer, and a superb cast, he created a powerful re-launch of this franchise. This tremendous accomplishment – to be the first film of 2014 to earn over $1 billion at the box office – proves once again that Michael is a world-class filmmaker at the top of his game." Transformers: Dark of the Moon, earned $1.12 billion back in 2011, while the first made $709 million and its sequel Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen took $836 million.

So this movie makes it to a billion while How to Train Your Dragon 2 underperforms.

People need to get their priorities in order.

Despite this film (and the continuing downfall of Spider-Man), this has been one of the best summers in recent memory.

@Battabing

What if an independent critic payed to watch this film and their intellect makes yours look like that of an infant by comparison and their cultural knowledge utterly eclipsing yours?

I say let the film make as much as it needs to make. I thoroughly enjoyed the action and more concentration on developing some autobot/decepticon characters. Plus, that soundtrack was too nice! Was it perfect? No! But it had improvements over the last few films. I feel if they really aced the DINOBOT characters by giving them more screentime/personality it would've been better. The very ending felt a little pushed and quickened but overall I still enjoyed watching it.

IM3 is easily one of my favourite MCU films. I'm not ashamed to say it.
