Star Karl Urban all-but confirmed that Billy Butcher and the gang would return for more mayhem back in March when he revealed that he was “shooting The Boys through the end of the year,” and Amazon has now officially renewed the critically-acclaimed show for a fourth season.
The announcement comes just one week after the season 3 premiere, which debuted on Prime Video with the first three episodes (the fourth is now streaming).
“From our first conversation with [showrunner] Eric Kripke and the creative team about season three of The Boys, we knew the show was continuing to get even bolder — an impressive feat considering the wild success of the Emmy-nominated second season,” said Vernon Sanders, head of global television at Amazon Studios. “The Boys continues to push boundaries in storytelling while also being relentlessly entertaining and threading the needle on social satire that feels all too real. This stylized world of the series has incredible global reach and the viewership for opening weekend is proof of that. We are immensely proud of the cast and crew that has spawned a franchise for Prime Video, and we look forward to bringing more of The Boys to our customers.”
Like other streaming services, Prime doesn’t share detailed viewing figures for its shows, but the global audience for The Boys season 3 is said to have grown by 17% over the second-season premiere. The renewal isn't much of a surprise, but it's nice to have confirmation in a time when it seems like no streaming show's future is guaranteed.
The season 3 finale airs on July 8, and it's a doozy (you can check out our spoiler-free review of the full season here).
