The Boys season 4 might be a little further off than fans of the hit Amazon Prime superhero drama would like. Despite leaks of onsite filming hitting the internet last summer, it looks as if season 4 of The Boys will indeed be impacted by the Hollywood writer's strike.
Showrunner Eric Kripke has revealed that the highly-anticipated season's release is contingent upon the writer's strike ending, an indication that reshoots may be needed as Kripke previously revealed in April that filming on season 4 had wrapped.
The Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike is an ongoing labor dispute between the WGA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), which represents the major film and television studios in Hollywood.
The strike began on May 2, 2023, and shows no sign of ending anytime soon. The WGA and AMPTP are locked in negotiations on a number of issues including payment for streaming and new media, artificial intelligence, residuals, and health care.
One key issue is the WGA's insistence that writers be paid residuals for their work on streaming and new media platforms, such as Netflix and Hulu.
While fans of The Boys await the release of season 4, there's good news in the form of the Gen V spinoff show, which will follow a group of young adults at Godolkin University, America's only college exclusively for young adult superheroes (and run by Vought International). Gen V is currently aiming for a fall 2023 release, per Kripke.
