With the new episode called "Listen" due to air tomorrow night in the uk it seems  right to get some Doctor Who news only this one is a bit Strange. It seems that some oversee viewers are having trouble understanding the nw doctor with some having to use captions or even re-wrinding scene's a US speech coah had this to say “I do not believe it is purely the accent that is throwing off the American audience. The actor often speaks very quickly, with a staccato rhythm and without enough attention to articulating through to the end of his thought/line.This does promote a character choice of Doctor Who being sharp and quick-thinking, but does not help us understand what the Doctor is actually saying/thinking.” Now to help balance things out and prove it's not just oversee viewers a UK linguistics expert also put his two cents in and said “There was the odd moment when I struggled to hear exactly what he was saying, so I don’t think this is exclusively a US problem. It’s not just a matter of accent: speed of speech and volume are factors too, especially when there’s a lot of background noise. A mild Scots accent seems to cause no problem (think Sean Connery), but broad accents may need subtitling (as in Trainspotting).” So there you have it but tho people could understand doctor number 7 easy and he had a slight accent so why is Peter's accent causing trouble?. Anyways guys let me know if you can understand the new doctor down below?.

I can understand him just fine. Maybe he should be dubbed for the U.S BBC Worldwide audience then.

The alley scene in Deep Breath was a little hard to follow, but other than that I can definitely understand him.

It's not the accent that's the matter. It's the music that plays in the backround.

I have to turn my volume up so high to understand what anyone says. Not just the Doctor.

I understood him just fine. Thicker accent, sure, but as long as you can make out most of what he says by tone, annunciation and inflection, your brain fills in the missing pieces. I guess just the 'ignant would have an issue understanding him.

I haven't had any problems yet, but I've only seen the first two episodes. I have noticed some people complaining that he is not easy to understand.

@[frick]offassholes, @TheOverlord
How is any of this appropriate to the situation? I'm an American who can understand him. Grow the hell up.

@[frick]offassholes I'm British and I never said I had a problem with his accent in fact if you read the comments I say I can understand him perfectly

@BatmanIsBaddest Note that my response was clearly tongue-in-cheek and not meant to offend. Apologies if that wasn't clear.

I'm also an American who can completely understand him. I really don't understand the controversy here, and I think it's mostly a non-issue -- manufactured hype. So I was just having a little fun with it. Thus my reference to the classic Monty Python gag about eels and hovercraft.

The simple fact is that Peter Capaldi is AMAZING. I am not so blown away by the writing so far, but Capaldi was clearly made to play the doctor.

Haters gonna hate.
