The upcoming re-adaptation of Stephen King's The Stand is set to premiere on December 17, and CBS All Access has now released a series of stylish character posters.

The banners spotlight the forces of good, who align themselves with Whoopie Goldberg's "Mother" Abagail Freemantle, and those who choose to stand with the demonic Randall Flagg (Alexander Skarsgård).

EW has also shared three new stills from the show, focusing on "dark side" characters Flagg, Lloyd Henried (Nat Wolff), Nadine Cross (Amber Hear), Rat Woman (Fiona Dourif), and Trashcan Man, who we recently learned will be played by Justice League actor Ezra Miller.

For those unfamiliar with King's novel, The Stand deals with a global pandemic (yes, it's a scarily prescient tale) known as "Captain Tripps" which wipes out 99% of the world's population. The survivors are immune to the disease, but are ultimately forced to fight each other as some are drawn to a the light (Abagail), and others to darkness (Flagg).

New Mutants director Josh Boone, who was the driving force behind all previous attempts to adapt the book, will direct, write, and produce the upcoming miniseries.

I hope this is good. The cast (outside of Miller), has me pretty excited.

Josh Boone, not so much. Maybe this is the beginning of his redemption.

@inkniron - I hope so. He's a huge Stephen King fan so hopefully this turn on King's magnum opus (okay, I really think The Dark Tower counts as it for King) turns into one for him as well.

They're gonna butcher this book so much, haha. First Dark Tower, then It 2 and now this. The fact that the best Stephen King adaptations recently (Gerald's Game, Doctor Sleep) are based on books of his I haven't even read is a bummer.
Affleck was meant to do a big budget, big screen adaptation of this and now we're stuck with a CBS All Access show from the New Mutants dude and a cast w/ Amber Heard & Ezra Miller lol

@tmp3 - I hope you are wrong, but to do this as a theatrical release in just one movie would not have worked, especially if we are looking at the expanded version King released years after the original book. It wouldn't be as bad as doing TDK in one (short) theatrical release, but it would be close.

@tmp3 - TDT, my love of The Dark Knight tripped me up there.

off topic

For some reason #FixMsMarvel is trending.
Apparently, there's some casting issues, including a sex offender.

@Battabing - They need to fix that. Having a sex offender in a cast with largely minors is such a scary idea.

Amber "Abuse and Run" Heard?

Would have preferred a couple of movies or an HBO Series. CBS? That doesn’t really excite me. Some of these characters look to clean cut for the post apocalyptic world. And Whoopi Goldberg looks odd as Mother Abigale. The woman in the original had the perfect look.

@OldMan - Same here. Should've had it on ABC like the original mini-series. Plus, Cicely Tyson would've been perfect choice for Mother Abigail. But who knows, maybe it'll be good or better than the original?

@demery - I definitely hope it’s good. The Stand is one of my favorite books. As much as I enjoy the original, there are a good amount of elements that haven’t aged well and could benefit from an update. Here’s hoping for the best.

CBS All Access? Interesting name, since I don't have access to it

Nat Wolff looks awesome. But his character in the book wasn't an all-out psycho, just a convict caught up in the grander schemes of Flagg.

Character names would have been a good idea. Some are obvious, some not so much. BTW, in the book, Rita is supposed to be somewhat unattractive to Larry because of age. Heather Graham not so good casting for that reason, at least. 😉
