UNDER THE DOME, television's #1 summer series in viewers and key demographics, will return in summer 2014 with 13 new episodes, it was announced today by Nina Tassler, President, CBS Entertainment.

Stephen King, whose bestselling novel is the basis for the series, will write the premiere episode of the second season.

"We're excited to tell more stories about the mystery of the dome and the secrets in Chester's Mill, and are thrilled to have the master storyteller himself, Stephen King, tell the first one of next season," said CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler.

UNDER THE DOME is a serialized drama from Steven Spielberg's Amblin Television based on Stephen King's bestselling novel of the same name. It tells the story of a small town that is suddenly and inexplicably sealed off from the rest of the world by an enormous transparent dome. The town's inhabitants must deal with surviving the post-apocalyptic conditions while searching for answers to what this barrier is, where it came from, and if and when it will go away.

UNDER THE DOME is averaging 13.84 million viewers, 3.5/10 in adults 18-49 and 4.8/12 in adults 25-54. In addition to impressive live plus same day ratings on CBS, the series has also seen significant additional viewing on DVR playback, video-on-demand and online streaming - including Amazon's Prime Instant Video, which provides exclusive online subscription streaming four days after the broadcast on CBS. Amazon says that since the show's launch, UNDER THE DOME has been watched by more customers than any other series on the service.

UNDER THE DOME is produced by CBS Television Studios in association Amblin Television. Neal Baer, Stephen King, Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank, Stacey Snider, Jack Bender and Brian K. Vaughan, who wrote the television adaptation, are executive producers.

I thought this was an adaption of the book, a mini series.
Is the first season just half of the book???

I'm kind of shocked that a 13 episode mini-series was renewed when I hope it has a definite ending. I would have thought they'd option one of the many other Stephen King stories before adding a second season to a mini-series. Oh well, I really love the show anyway.

Wow, not even remotely surprised that this is being milked with another season. Integrity seems to be a foreign concept to Hollywood types.

Season one ends when they find out who put them Under the Dome and Season two is about confronting them to get the dome lifted?

Makes me wonder how Season one was supposed to end if they had no idea it was getting a second season.

Renewed a mini-series?!

Welcome to the new 'Lost'.

This plot is going to stretch so long it'll make Mr. Fantastic blush.

@fettastic

The book did have a shit ending to say the least, but the show barely follows the plot line of the book so hopefully the ending will be changed as well.

Huge fan of King's books, but just not digging this show for some reason, kind of boring.

Seriously? Being the "#1 summer series" is kinda like having the best pre-season record.

Hey when they start to run out of water in the new episode DON'T WORRY!!

They'll figure it out and be ready to go on in season 2.

Who needs survival tension?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are you [frick]ing serious Mr. King? You respect your work less than the studios. That's it I'm calling it a day on TV watching until September 24. Super. [frick]ing. Lame.

Ugh . I also wanted it to have an end not them being in the dome continuously.

Soooo people being under a dome for possibly six or more seasons doesn't interest any of you guys?

How strange.

It's a mini series and it having a end game is the only reason i watch it, the show itself doesn't justify a long running television series, stuff that like that just turns into LOST.

I think the show has a cool premise & will keep watching but this news screams of a ratings grab.

It's successful so they will keep making more despite it not originally being a long term series.
Ok..greed wins again!

I thought this was only supposed to be a miniseries too. I don't see how they can stretch the story to do another season.
