ARROW's Stephen Amell On CONSTANTINE & The Interconnectivity Of DC's TV Shows

After voicing his support for fellow DC TV show Constantine yesterday, Arrow's Stephen Amell has now revealed he's actually had discussions about a possible guest appearance on the show in the past - for a very specific reason. Read on for more!

Following Constantine's cancellation yesterday, Arrow lead Stephen Amell came out in full support for his fellow DC TV show - pledging to guest star on it, were it picked up by another suitor. Since then, Amell has revealed that genuine discussions about an Arrow/Constantine crossover have indeed happened in the past, over at DC Entertainment.

While speaking at Wizard World Philadelphia Comic Con, Amell talked candidly about the wildly popular DC TV universe - and the potential for interconnectivity between any of its shows, including Constantine. Check out what he had to say below (per Comicbook.com):

"There is an opportunity for interconnectivity with any DC television show that exists. Like, as an example, yesterday Constantine was cancelled. And there is…yeah, I know, it’s brutal…it’s a good show, and it should come back. And it may come back, like there are various platforms where it could come back.”

“Now, Constantine was an NBC show. I’m on The CW. I had had discussions with DC… so not NBC, not CW… but with DC Entertainment about guest starring on Constantine when it was still on the air. And that was and is still on the table. So we have Flash, we have Legends of Tomorrow, a new show which is directly connected to the Arrow universe, we have Supergirl… I’m sure it’s going to be amazing… there’s Gotham obviously, and I’m missing something… Titans, there you go... we have no shortage of options for me and other characters to populate.”

While it may be difficult to see the supernatural procedural and urban superhero drama meshing together at first, Amell explained that there had always been a very specific reason behind a potential crossover:

The reason that I was going to guest star on Constantine, at least the idea that we were throwing around was he’s an expert when it comes to the Lazarus Pit, which is now something that is a part of and will continue to be a part of Arrow.”

While it's dissappointing we never got to see this crossover this year, there may yet be some hope for next season. Amell claimed that the likes of Geoff Johns, Jim Lee and his Flash co-star Grant Gustin had joined him in throwing in their support for a surprise pick-up for Constantine. Will the show's increasingly vocal fanbase save it at the last hour? Hopefully - else we'd all just be left reminiscing about what could have been...

Nice work, @Minty! I find Amell's comments really, really interesting. Maybe we should start using 'It's All Connected' when talking about DCTV now...

Cheers @staypuffed! I tried to comment on your Amell find earlier btw but the site was messing up for me :/ Anyway, I linked the original article here as it was such a cool find (and it made my day when i saw what Amell had said to stick up for Constantine). Haha this DCTV universe really is becoming a force to be reckoned with!

Why change the name to [frick]ing blackbirds??? It's not about an air force squadron lol

@RobinHood It was never confirmed to be called BlackBirds. Hell, even Stepehen called it "Titans"

Amell is such a bad ass. DC is lucky to have found such an awesome representative for their tv universe. I hope they skip their barriers and allow him to play Oliver Queen in a future film.

Also, Titans is going to be sick! I really hope it's the same team roster as Teen Titans, Go!

And Constantine was incredible. Much better than Daredevil or Gotham or Agents of Shield or Agents of Peggy Carter's Shield. It deserves another season. i blame NBC for the bad ratings.

The fact that Stephen, the head hero of the DCTV Universe, says that Titans is possibly in the ARROWVERSE makes it all the more better. This just means with Nightwing being the main role, Batman exists in the universe. Not to mention in the recent promo for the Arrow finale, Ra's specifically says, "You were delivered by the prophecy..." My guess is that the prophecy refers to the "Detective" not Oliver.

Constantine was definitely a good show... But better than Daredevil?.... disagree there. To me, Tue Flash & Daredevil are on top

It would be fun seeing him on Constantine, but how would they say Angels or demons exist? When not that long ago people got powers from the accident at STAR labs. Would they then say John got his abilities from that? With how the Arrow universe started out being more realistic, I just don't think having Oliver show up on Constantine makes any sense. None of this stuff was even hinted too, so I personally hope if the show gets revived Green Arrow won't be on the show.

Because you have to remember season 2 was to bring in Etrigan, Spectre, Phantom Stranger and Dr. Fate. So having those characters exist in the Arrow universe, just seems like they'd be too powerful in that universe.

@BlackIceJoe You do know that magic exists in the Arrowverse right? They don't need to explain anything. The Lazarus Pit is magic, therefore Constantine and the Arrow can be in the same universe. Also, Deathbolt didn't get his powers from the particle accelerator, the truth behind a meta-human (without exposure to the explosion) being naturally like that leads into Legends of Tomorrow.

I will keep saying this:

CW needs to air Constantine during the summer so that we can have new DC TV Universe all year round.

So using 1/3 of Batman's villains didn't work?

Maybe this will!

Either have del Toro cast Matt Ryan as Constantine or have him connected and on the CW or connected to their stuff.

Ryan is Constantine.

I cannot stand what TV is doing to the superhero genre.

Please make it stop. Arrow's cancellation was a small step in the right direction, hopefully some of these other shows get the axe soon as well.

The problem with Constantine was likely Goyer's pitch.

He said in some interview for the show John was ranked the 3rd most popular comic book character after Bats and Supers.

[frick]ing really Goyer? Shut the [frick] up.

NBC never wanted to give the show time to develop or really a good time considering it was on at 10 on Friday. NBC thought John was some gold mine character and even if he was, they never gave him time to develop an audience.

I would like to see it back and given a show that's not a bad guy of the week story.
