Before there was Batman, there was GOTHAM. Everyone knows the name Commissioner Gordon. He is one of the crime world’s greatest foes, a man whose reputation is synonymous with law and order. But what is known of Gordon’s story and his rise from rookie detective to Police Commissioner? What did it take to navigate the multiple layers of corruption that secretly ruled Gotham City, the spawning ground of the world’s most iconic villains? And what circumstances created them – the larger-than-life personas who would become Catwoman, The Penguin, The Riddler, Two-Face and The Joker? GOTHAM is an origin story of the great DC Comics Super-Villains and vigilantes, revealing an entirely new chapter that has never been told.

Starring Ben McKenzie, Donal Logue, Robin Lord Taylor, Sean Pertwee, Zabryna Guevara, Erin Richards, David Mazouz, Camren Bicondova, David Zayas, and Jada Pinkett Smith, Gotham premiered on FOX on September 22nd. Let us know your thoughts on the pilot in the poll below!

Well, it's off to a good start. That's all we can ask for right now.

I don't care HOW British Sean Pertwee actually is, Alfred just sounds too goddamn Australian on this show. Cockney, Kiwi, and Australian accents may all be similar (since New Zealand and Australian were populated by colonial England, meaning their accents are simply a corrupted form of Cockney), but Brits don't call people "mate" or shout "OI!", so in my book, that makes him Australian.

ALFRED SHOULD NOT BE AUSTRALIAN.

Besides the kiddie villains, only other thing that was off was his origin should've been a little updated for the more modern times.

It's hard to fathom why a billionaire, the "richest man in Gotham" would decide to take his wife and kid in a stroll by themselves in a dark back alley...in a city called "Gotham" no less.

That's like Bill Gates or Donald Trump going for a walk with his wife and kid in the back alleys of Detroit.

70 years ago when cars weren't around much it's believable, but here in the 21st century it's a little silly. Where is their chauffeur, or even Alfred waiting in the car outside the theater?

Was that the same way they got in? Was walking thru that dark alley how billionaire Thomas Wayne brought his wife and kid into the movies as well?

@jordanstine They didn't change that because it's part of what made Thomas Wayne who he was. No matter how much money he had, he was one of the people. Nolan fi d a good job of portraying that in Begins with the monorail scene.

@The Fox - Yes, we do say "mate" (Londoner for 14 years now). He has a cockney accent which I don't think suits the character and that was my only gripe with the show, apart from Ivy and Edward Nigma... Other than that it was really promising.

@Jordanstine Because Thomas Wayne didn't put himself above the other people of Gotham. He helped everyone who needed it because he wasn't a dick. He trusted in his city, because he loved it. You keep trolling with this thinking you're smart, but you're not. You just come off as some that has just two days ago learned about Batman and his origin.

@TheFox British people do say "mate", I don't know about "OI", but they do say mate as I know British people and any time I've talked to them online they'd say "mate". Hell, eventually I picked up on the word and say "mate" too. And I'm American.

@Batmaniac, @Gunslinger, @Yonny616: (sigh)

FINE, I'll accept your first-hand experience over the broad stereotyping pop culture has inundated me with for the past twenty-seven years. Thanks for the correction; it always bugs me when I come on this message board and say something stupid, so at least I know not to repeat the point, lol! In light of your testimony to my lack of knowledge on this subject, I shall refine my point:

Alfred Pennyworth, gentleman's gentleman and trusted butler of the Wayne family, should not sound like he walked out of the grungier parts of a Charles Dickens novel. Half the people watching thought the guy was Australian (I did read the comments on the first few post-pilot articles; I wasn't the ONLY one who thought that), and even if he isn't, cockney is a thick, clunky accent. Being a butler, it only makes sense that Alfred would speak with a refined British accent instead. It's just abrasive to hear such a mangled, mumbling accent coming from a butler; it'd be like casting an actor with a thick Brooklyn accent to play a senator from Vermont.

But whatever... there are FAR cheesier things going on in this show than Alfred's accent. Maybe it'll grow on me. Or maybe I'll just stop watching. Either way.

Watched it tonight and it was alright, though I am not sure it will have any long term payoff for me being I know Jim Gordon won't win the war and we won't see Batman.

It had its good moments and not so good moments (crazy camera shots of Gordon during the Pepper chase scene). I understand Bruce being distraught over seeing his parents killed, but he sounded like a school girl screaming. A little much...

I'll watch a few more episodes.
