DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn is preparing to begin shooting Superman: Legacy (which, as far as we know, is still on track to commence filming this March), but the Man of Steel reboot is far from the only project he's currently working on.
In addition to putting the finishing touches to the Creature Commandos animated series, Gunn is also in the process of writing the second season of Peacemaker, and it sounds like he's making good progress.
When asked for an update on Threads, The Suicide Squad director said he is "partway" through writing episode 8, which will be the season finale, adding that it's "a banger."
As we're sure you'll recall, the season 1 finale of Peacemaker featured cameos from the Justice League (well, some of 'em), so Gunn might well have some big surprises lined up for the conclusion of season 2.
In a separate Thread, Gunn confirmed that the DCU's new Batman will not make his debut in Superman: Legacy. Though The Dark Knight was never actually rumoured to appear, the amount of characters that are lined up for the movie has led to some speculation that the filmmaker might be planning to introduce Bruce Wayne/Batman to lay the groundwork for The Brave and the Bold.
Though The Flash director Andy Muchietti is still attached to helm the new Batman movie (though, to be honest, we wouldn't be surprised if another filmmaker ended up taking over), Gunn has made it clear that the project is still a long way off, so we will most likely be waiting another while for official casting news.
The closest we've come to any kind of casting "rumor" was a bit of internet scuttlebutt about Jensen Ackles possibly being considered for the role, but The Boys and Supernatural actor made it clear that no conversations have taken place during a fan event late last year - although he did admit to being very interested in playing Batman in live-action after previously voicing the iconic hero in The Long Halloween animated features.
"Look, right now nobody's talking about anything. There's a strike going on in the entertainment industry, and until that gets solved, nobody is having conversations about anything. Would I entertain the idea of playing my favorite superhero of all time? Nah, I'm good (laughs)...sounds like a lot of work. I would love it. Sign me up."
Along with a new take on the Caped Crusader, The Brave and the Bold will introduce a very different Robin in the form of Damian Wayne, a "murderous tween raised by assassins who also happens to be the son Batman never knew he had."
