Last week, the news broke that Arrow star Stephen Amell will reprise his role as Oliver Queen/Green Arrow in the upcoming ninth and final season of The Flash.

That announcement has been met with an overwhelmingly positive response from fans, and while the circumstances surrounding the Emerald Archer's return remain a mystery, we expect the character to have a memorable role in the series. After all, Arrow is where the "Arrowverse" began, and The Flash season 9 is set to bring that iteration of the DC Universe to a close.

Now, Amell has talked more about his Green Arrow return, revealing that his one regret is it couldn't have been kept a secret.

"If it were up to me, I wouldn't have said sh*t. I like surprises. That being said, certain things are difficult to keep a surprise," the actor explains in the video below. "I saw someone commenting the other day they probably made this announcement because we are probably going to be filming in a public place, and I am probably going to get photographed in whatever I am wearing."

"That was probably correct - that was probably a good assumption, so whatever. It's not like we are filming in a field in Scotland. We might be filming in Downtown Vancouver. It doesn't matter; we will be filming in broad daylight; it was going to get out, so we took control of the narrative, and that was fine."

"I wouldn't have said sh*t, though, and I am not going to say anything else now," Amell continued, making it clear he won't be offering any details on what leads to the hero's return after his demise in Crisis on Infinite Earths. "Don't ask me any more questions - if you get any more information about my appearance, it is not going to be from me."

The announcement definitely shocked a lot of fans who assumed a possible Amell return might be saved as a surprise. However, we're sure the prospect of seeing him in the ninth instalment of the truncated 13-episode season will increase interest in a show that, unfortunately, has been running on fumes for a while now.

That ninth episode will see Amell joined by Keiynan Lonsdale as Wally West/Kid Flash, David Ramsey as John Diggle/Spartan, Sendhil Ramamurthy as Ramsey Rosso/Bloodwork, and Nicole Maines as Nia Nal/Dreamer. Clearly, it's going to be a star-studded instalment of The Flash, though we do hope Green Arrow isn't overshadowed!

The Flash season 9 is set to premiere on February 8.

I get it. It’s very hard to keep anything secret because every set that’s not inside had a million people taking photos. Not to blame the people who go to watch the filming but I think the last time something truly surprised me in media was funnily enough in Crisis when Ezras Flash showed up

I don't think I'm gonna catch up, because I know it's gonna just be me forcing myself through a few seasons after crisis that likely won't really matter to the finale all that much, not enough to sit through I'd image its probably like 60 episodes to catch up. No thanks.

I'm sure I can fill in the blanks. Maybe, just maybe I'll watch the final season from the start if the season but probably not lol

Reason they announced his return was for the hype. These shows, even Flash, have been at all-time lows for viewership for a long time now and it just keeps getting worse. This is your standard celebrity cameo for ratings trick. It's a good plan too cause even I might check it out after not watching the any of these shows since not long after Crisis event. I even gave up on Superman and Lois, I really did not like last season at all and never even finished it. Got tired of watching Lois sitting down having boring conversations with everyone manufacturing drama for drama sake.

One of the coolest moments was the cameo by Ezra's Flash in Crisis. Granted all the shit that's come out since then about him kinda tarnished it but it was definitely a great surprise at the time.
