Believe it or not, it's coming up to a year since The Flash concluded its nine-season run on The CW. The Arrowverse TV shows fell one by one, with the Scarlet Speedster lucky to get a proper ending after Batwoman and Legends of Tomorrow were unceremoniously cancelled.
Grant Gustin did a great job as Barry Allen in the eyes of most fans, and the positive aspects of his performance shone even brighter after whatever it was Ezra Miller did in The Flash movie last summer.
Talking to The Wrap, Gustin admitted he's spoken to DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn...but not about the Fastest Man Alive.
"We've never talked about Flash," the actor confirmed. "We've talked, just like, I'm a huge Superman fan. I've always been a Superman fan, since I was a kid. So, I'm just really excited about the movie. And I'm excited about David [Corenswet]'s casting."
He added, "I'm excited to see what James Gunn does with it. So, I think at one point - maybe a couple of different times, we've DM'd about Superman. We've literally never talked Flash. I'm just excited he's doing Superman."
In other words, they exchanged pleasantries and talked a little bit about the SUPERMAN movie coming to theaters next year. This will disappoint anyone hoping Gustin will get another shot at playing the Scarlet Speedster in the DCU, particularly after he's previously shown a willingness to do so.
"Yeah, if James Gunn asked me to play The Flash, I would do it again," he said earlier this year. "I trust James Gunn."
Gunn later responded to that by saying, "Grant is an incredibly talented guy, performing now on Broadway, I believe, and is absolutely not going to waste just because he's not currently in a DC project. But of course, I'd love to work with him at some point."
Thus far, the filmmaker has only brought back a handful of actors he worked with on DC projects like The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker. The DCEU's leads have largely been recast or forgotten, and we'd assume the same will apply to the Arrowverse's cast as well.
Despite declaring The Flash one of "the greatest superhero movies ever made," Gunn has yet to comment on plans for Barry (or any hero to have held the mantle) in the DCU. We're guessing DC Studios would like some breathing room between the 2022 movie and whatever comes next.
SUPERMAN tells the story of Superman's journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.
The movie is currently set to be released in theaters on July 11, 2025.
