Literally the only show that's been running for super long that actually had a satisfying ending (according to the internet) from what I've seen is still breaking bad. Mad Men, Sopranos, HIMYM,Dexter. All of them dissappointing or bad endings. And sadly GOT has suffered the same fate.

@Mrcool210 - Never has heard those claims about Breaking Bad or even Mad Men. The Sopranos I can get and definitely agree on HIMYM and Dexter though.

@DwightKGroot - Epic in scale? Yes. But epic in length.. nope

@BigMikeReviews - Honestly not epic in scale either. The battles were mired in controversy.

Battle at Winterfell was hardly watchable with poor lighting and editing choices, a missed opportunity to really showcase a dance with the dragons and an underwhelming end to the conflict just to be politically correct because its cool to do so now.

Battle of Kings Landing, was a case study in poor story-telling.

Where can I buy S1-5 boxset?! Such a great show and so glad it ended after five seasons 😏

Aside from the overall hate of the last season, this show in general just felt lackluster. There were standout episodes to be sure, but this wasn't peak television for me, by any means.

So season 7 and 8 weren’t as good as they could’ve been, it doesn’t negate the fact that the first 6 seasons were incredible television.

Some of you lot are so fickle.
LongMayHeReign

@PlusUltra - Weren't as good as they could've been? They were much much worse than most of us could have even imagined.

FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 6/26/2019, 10:06 AM
@LongMayHeReign - Again, that doesn’t negate the quality of the first 6 seasons. I see this so much. GoT, Marvel, Star Wars; one misstep, and people act like all the other years worth of quality entertainment amounts to nothing. It’s fickle.
Kyos
Kyos - 6/26/2019, 11:01 AM
@PlusUltra - Depends on the nature and magnitude of the misstep, I guess. GoT used to be one of my favourite shows for the first few seasons, and I ended up not even watching S8.
LongMayHeReign
LongMayHeReign - 6/26/2019, 11:23 AM
@PlusUltra - Don't get me confused, the first 6 seasons will forever be held very dear to me, but you can't say people are being fickle if the ending betrays what came before and people are upset about it.

It's a widely known an excepted belief that...

This is true in all things, if the last thing people see of your show is sub par then that is what they are going to remember, there's just no two ways about this. A person could run a race and lead the for 3/4 of it but if they fail in the last 1/4 that is what they will be remembered for. It may not seem fair sometimes, but it is what it is, D&D failed this show and these characters and their careers and this show will be forever defined by that failure.
FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 6/26/2019, 11:49 AM
@LongMayHeReign - I’m not saying people are fickle for being displeased with the ending, I’m saying they are for writing off the entirety of the show based on the ending alone.

And I don’t believe a show is defined by how it ends. If that were the case, The Sopranos wouldn’t be considered one of the greats, because its ending was trash, even worse than Thrones. I do believe that everything is still fresh right now, and it’s blurring people’s perspective, but to reiterate what I’ve been saying, a bad ending doesn’t negate the journey and all the years of entertainment that a show or franchise gave you, no matter how pissed you are at its ending. To act as if does, and then to write it off the completely, is fickle.
LongMayHeReign
LongMayHeReign - 6/26/2019, 11:53 AM
@PlusUltra - How is changing your opinion on something after being given more information "fickle". If a person is "fickle" then they are changing their opinions with no rhyme or reason simply because they can. D&D gave these people a "reason" to change their opinions of the show therefore making them justified and not at all "fickle".
FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 6/26/2019, 12:06 PM
@LongMayHeReign - It’s fickle, because five minutes ago, people loved something they now don’t based on a factor that doesn’t change what they loved. People didn’t love GoT for all these years based on a promise of a good ending; they loved it based on the journey. To then turn around and write it off now because the ending didn’t live up to expectations isn’t rational, let alone reasonable, because the ending doesn’t change a single thing about all the enjoyment you’ve gotten out of the show all these years.
LongMayHeReign
LongMayHeReign - 6/26/2019, 12:37 PM
@PlusUltra - No see that's where you are 1000% incorrect. People loved GoT because it was a masterclass in storytelling, complete with characters who acted like real people in this fantasy world. They could have strayed very far away from what people were expecting and as long as they told a great story and told it well the majority of the fans would be accepting.

Instead they told a poor story which was even more poorly written and thought out, which not only causes characters to act illogically but also throws some of them away as if they meant nothing.

How is it not rational or reasonable to change your stance on something when everything you liked about that thing has changed? Literally the only thing that people will 100% agree on is that the production quality of the show is and has always been top tier. But again no one feel in love with this show because of production quality, it was and always has been the story and characters that were the biggest draws and they [frick]ed both up in the last 2 seasons.

But by all means try to explain to me how people are still fickle.

FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 6/26/2019, 1:02 PM
@LongMayHeReign - Because you’re changing your stance on something you love based on something you hate that doesn’t change a facet about what you loved. The ending of the show doesn’t negate the fact that, up until that point, was a masterclass of storytelling in your words.

You even said, in an earlier post, that you hold the first 6 seasons dear to you, yeah? Well, there you go. Explain to me how it’s reasonable now to write off those first 6 seasons based on the last 2? Explain to me how it’s rational to negate all the enjoyment you got out of the first 6 seasons based on the last two? And explain how it isn’t fickle to disregard those first 6 season completely, as if you never loved them, because the last 2 didn’t live up to your expectations?

Look at it this way. If Endgame was shit, would it be reasonable and rationale to write off the entirety of the MCU based on that? Because that would be the equivalent in this respect.
LongMayHeReign
LongMayHeReign - 6/26/2019, 1:47 PM
@PlusUltra - "You even said, in an earlier post, that you hold the first 6 seasons dear to you, yeah? Well, there you go. Explain to me how it’s reasonable now to write off those first 6 seasons based on the last 2?"

Because if I was to watch those first 6 seasons again knowing where the characters will end up it ruins those seasons because I KNOW they won't have a satisfying end. No matter what you can tell me about the first 6 being great I can never get the thought of what 7 and 8 does to these characters.

The MCU is completely different because each film is it's own contained story. Yes they have ties to each other but they can function on their own. Thanos was not nearly as involved as a threat in each Marvel film as the White Walkers were for GoT. They introduced the Whites in the very first 10 minutes of the series, whereas Thanos was not shown until the 6th film and we didn't see our first Infinity Stone until the 5th.

@PlusUltra - How was the Sopranos ending even bad, much less worse than Game of Thrones?

The way the very ending went out was actually pretty fitting. I actually regard it as whether or not Tony was killed in that diner as sort of irrelevant. The main point is that a man in his position, his story's only going to end one of two ways: being murdered or going to prison for a long time. Either way his grand reign as mob boss was over. Even if he doesn't get shot in the head right at that table, he says moments earlier that Carlo (I think that was his name) was turned into a cooperating witness for the FBI, so that by itself means Tony's best case scenario is living the next couple decades, if not the rest of his life behind bars.
