HOUSE OF THE DRAGON: Daemon Returns Victorious In The New Preview For Episode 4: "King Of The Narrow Sea"

Last night's installment of HBO's House of the Dragon was undoubtedly its most action-packed yet, and it looks like the next hour will dial back some of the bloodshed for quite a bit more drama.

Last night's action-packed installment of HBO's House of the Dragon saw the series jump ahead a few years in time, as King Viserys (Paddy Considine) has already taken Alicent Hightower (Emily Carey) as his new wife, and is celebrating his first son Aegon II's second birthday.

While the King remains adamant that Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock) will be his heir, the seeds of doubt have already been planted and his succession plan is fully in disarray, meaning it seems increasingly likely we'll soon begin heading toward the inevitable. Next week's episode will take another slight time jump to further reveal some of the early moments before devastation comes for the Targaryen dynasty.

Meanwhile, Daemon (Matt Smith) gets the hour's most show-stopping moments as he and Caraxes take the battle right to Craghas Drahar, a.k.a. Craghas Crabfeeder, and ultimately bests him in combat during the hour's closing moments. The War for the Stepstones has finally been won and Daemon has declared himself the new King of the Narrow Sea, which sets the stage for his return to King's Landing next week.

Check out the new preview for episode four, titled "King of the Narrow Sea," as well as the episode three featurette below:

Season One features Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Fabien Frankel, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans, with Milly Alcock, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Emily Carey, Harry Collett, Ryan Corr, Tom Glynn-Carney, Jefferson Hall, David Horovitch, Wil Johnson, John Macmillan, Graham McTavish, Ewan Mitchell, Theo Nate, Matthew Needham, Bill Paterson, Phia Saban, Gavin Spokes, and Savannah Steyn.

Based on George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood,” the series, set 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones,” tells the story of House Targaryen.

I really enjoyed the episode, but them not showing Deamon fighting the Crabfeeder especially after building him up was bullshit. I didn't need a huge fight but atleast something more then what we got.

Also Paddy Considine continues to be the MVP of the show.

@CurlyBill - For once I didn’t mind not seeing a fight. Deamon proved himself on the battlefield and I got the impression that by not showing it that the Crabfreder was quickly disposed of.

This show is [frick]ing High Art compared to Rings of Power. Ryan Condal can write

@McMurdo - I think the show works great because the writer lets you know who all the characters, what each of them want and what they are doing to get it; and all those things conflict with each other interpersonally and between characters. And that's from the first episode.

Meanwhile in LOTR, which is honestly not as bad as people are saying, you barely know the characters and what they want. There's a lot of meandering and filler. HotD is no filler, I pause it and find myself surprised it's been only half the episode because they tackle so much character and plot with such precise real estate. It's impressive writing and directing.

Good episode but I am a little disappointed they did a 2 year time jump completely ignoring all the drama from the end of the second episode.

@AnthonyVonGeek - how did they ignore the drama??? This time jump put them precisely in the middle of said drama mate

@McMurdo - I wanted to see more of the fallout when the king announced his new queen and I figured the wedding and birth of his son would be highlighted with some shocking drama or action. Plus I wanted to see more of Daemon and Corlys working together and the kings reaction to it. Seems lazy to do a time jump to me. 🤷‍♂️

@AnthonyVonGeek -
-The King said "I want to marry her!"
-Everyone else "but why--"
- "Because I am you're [frick]ing king"
- "Fair enough"... 2 years later.

I imagine that's exactly how the drama played out. To me, it seemed like they had the foresight to skip ahead to when the conflict is highest. The king has a male heir, the king feels he is being punished by gods for killing his wife+son, theres the conflict between naming his son as heir or keeping Rhaynera(spl), there's the conflict at sand stone. I think it's great storytelling and not lazy at all.

Proof that a good cast can handle a series with such responsibility as this House of The Dragon.
Positive highlights for Matt Smith, Paddy Considine, Milly Alcock and Notting Hill's eternal Spike Rhys Ifans

Loved this episode. All the cast is crushing it, but Paddy Considine especially gave his Emmy reel performance this week.
