love to have a big one of those framed for my house, maybe I'll just do another watchmen painting and base it off the poster.

What is happening to the marketing of this movie?

I mean I thought the first posters were cool, and there have been some cool bits of marketing. But this poster is crap (the kind that completely clogs your pipes and makes the toilet water fill your bathroom), badly photoshoped pictures to mash them up, the floating "visionary" text, the yellow lighting at the end of the Watchmen title, it is completely unbalanced (too much visual weight on the poster's right hand side, that would be your left side)it is all complete crap, not only that but how come Rorscharch is soaked, yet everyone else's hair is completely dried and neatly combed?.

Before everyone starts complaining how I always bitch about everything, I studied design and marketing and although I may differ on the stylistic choices used I know when something is badly designed, and I can professionally say that either they rushed this piece or the team decided to give it to one of their lazy (oppossed to the good) interns.

xaosjerk - 1/28/2009, 8:03 PM
It's fine the right left balance I don't agree with the owlship more street detail, more lighting in the offices of the tall buildings, and the closenss and lighting of comedian all balance the other side. The reason that none of them are wet except Rorschach is because Doc Manhattan just teleported the rest there and the rain hasn't hit their heads yet =P. The colors work really well, it's very classic looking, I like it, it's fine that you don't the world needs more nitpickers, but I don't agree here.

If I repainted this mine would be more impressionistic not an exact copy, if I wanted an exact copy I'd just have a print made or buy one.

this movie post is awesome and i can't wait to see it, but Dr. Manhattan seem to be out of place in comparsion to the other characters in the poster you got comedian, knight owl, silk spectre, ozymandias, rorschach and there BOOM is bright blue floating dr. manhattan. even though he is behind ozymandias he still seems larger than him. still this movie will be sweet.

MarkCassidy - 1/28/2009, 8:37 PM
I agree with noob, this is just a badly stuck together piecemeal pic with no effort put into it...still think the movie looks great mind!

this movie looks so boring for a comicbook, pff.

CrookedJaw
CrookedJaw - 1/28/2009, 9:15 PM
haha, NoobMike, I actually agree with you on that, the poster does look mashed together. This is only for the poster, the movie still looks awesome, but yes...The poster looks rushed and a bit amateur.
BOOK552
BOOK552 - 1/28/2009, 9:26 PM
Hey crimson chin just an FYI the reason why Dr. Manhattan looks so much bigger than everyone else is because he can change what size he is.
NoobMike
NoobMike - 1/28/2009, 10:03 PM
maybe that's the whole reason the perspective of the whole piece is way off? if you look at perspective studies using humans you'll see what I mean, every single one has their own point of perspective, and not one of those fits with the one the buildings have.

If a professional came to me with this poster as the final piece of work, I would shove it up their asses (I have rejected better work). xaosjerk, if I were you I'd take a lot of liberties adapting this piece of trash into a painted piece, I'd love to see your finished work, if this was a fanpiece I would think it was OK, but to come from the studio is really revolting. I mean just the use of the feather option in photoshop to cut them out is really poorly done.

ror, maybe we can throw him to fend of against Jesse Custer (Preacher), maybe that will be painful enough, or maybe he just thinks comic books are the Looney Tunes and Disney ones.

Holy crap......

Did he just say that the Watchmen is BORING!!! WHO THE HELL DOES HE THINK HE IS!!!!
Ah Oh well this America were he has the right to say what he wants but how canhe say it is boring. I read it as a kid, and I was too young to undestand everything but it was still life changing. I reread it later and was blown away be how complex it was, everytime I read it I notice something new.
Shaman
Shaman - 1/29/2009, 6:50 AM
Yeah Noob, i also studied in art and this poster is total trash! And there's no squid in it!!! The nerve... :P But seriously, for a "final" poster, it would have cost less to just NOT do it. IMO, the movie will be great but this poster sucks.

And BOOK552, Oh right, just because he can be bigger doesn't mean it excuses the fact that he is on this poster. So that would mean that you'd be okay with Snyder making Doc Man a different size in every single shot without any explanation what so ever... just because "he can"? Well that just reaks of logic doesn't it.

xaosjerk- Please tell me you were kidding dude, when you said "The reason that none of them are wet except Rorschach is because Doc Manhattan just teleported the rest there and the rain hasn't hit their heads yet =P" because that would also make alot of freakin sense. LOL "Hey Doc, we're ready for the shot!", "Okay, i'll teleport everyone! I mean, i've become too existancial to care about the fate of the world but a picture is worth a thousand words..." LOLOL :P

Jokes aside, this movie will rock! For those about to ROCK, I SALUTE YOOOOOOUUUUUUU!!!!!!

What do you mean Inohaku, I can see the squid clear as day, are you blind?

Really every time I see this I start foaming at the mouth, they have a huge budget and this is what comes out?

Really, not only is my bathroom flooded with crap diluted in water, it's starting to flood my living room and my kitchen.

Lol farmboy... could you please check the back of your neck and tell me if your skin is read? I mean farmboy + thinking this poster is great art + not knowing how to spell Louvre....

NoobMike
NoobMike - 1/29/2009, 2:42 PM
nooooo I know that is the owl ship, but are you blind too Shaman?

I can clearly see the squid, it's between silk spectre and night owl, it winks at me, it tells me to do things, it says that Snyder sucks wet farts out of pigeons' asses.
Shaman
Shaman - 1/29/2009, 3:18 PM
Kinda like what you need to do in case of a snake bite. Well the fella's quite the suckcessor to Crocodile Hunter, a talent i wasn't aware of.

Does the squid tell you to touch yourself Noob?

I like tentacles. :)
ElBeaster
ElBeaster - 1/29/2009, 3:24 PM
People need to give Snyder some credit. He shouldn't have given the fans false hope with his 100% accuracy claim, but I still think that just about everybody else would have completely bastardized the source material. 300 was freakin awesome and Dawn of Dead was great. Give him a few more movies and then if you want to hate him, you have the right.

I just don't understand why people complain that he just adapts straight from the comic to the screen and then complain that he isn't staying true to the comic.
He'll never be acclaimed as an amazing director, but you'd think at least the comic book fans would respect him.

But ya, I'm super psyched about this flick, but this poster sucks. I coulda made this in two days of photoshop class.

COMICBOOKMOVIE: hey after the success of the HULK Vs. Fan Art Contest, you should launch a Fan Art Contest For at least the Watchmen and then the Wolverine movies...

(...man, i suck drawing :-[ , but i enjoy all your stuff in the Hulk Vs contest gallery) :-]

Shaman
Shaman - 1/29/2009, 7:09 PM
Well elbeaster, you know i was just having some fun. I do think this movie will rock.

SirJed, the main reason behind fan art contests is to win a prize related to the theme. What would we win in this case? The trade paper back we all have? Tickets to the movie? I think this contest will be better suited when the 3 disc special slow-mo squidless edition comes out on DVD. And that also goes for any other upcoming comic book movie.

Good point crush.

Shaman- You assume way too much, all I was doing was giving a reason why he looks so much bigger than every one else, no I would not be okay if he was randomly huge in scenes where his normal side, so just chill out

is there any FOX logo at the bottom of the poster?

i guess there's none
Pockets713
Pockets713 - 1/30/2009, 2:51 AM
the only thing i'm worried about for this film... is that since it's done by the "visionary" director of 300.. I'm afraid they're going to put far too much slow motion scenes in it... one scene that you see in the preview that really worries me is... you see Laurie fall through like a floor then there's an explosion behind her... and it doesn't go into slow motion for the explosion... the explosion starts... then it's in slow... and she flicks her hair... then it resumes in real time... i mean... c'mon... though I am super excited for this movie... i'm just weary about this director... really hope he doesn't F it up
Shaman
Shaman - 1/30/2009, 7:04 AM
I'm chill Book, i'm chill. It's cool essay. Just letting you know that your explication was irrationnal and in no way a valid excuse for the crappyness of the poster. But it's cool, it's cool, let's all chill and ...have a bud.
Photosmagoria
Photosmagoria - 1/30/2009, 8:57 AM
This poster doesn't work because it's a piece of advertising that doesn't make me want to see the film, and thus fails in my opinion as an advert. It's too generic and bland. I'm also not really a fan of the whole 'from the director of' thing. It doesn't really matter how many good films a director may have made in the past, that doesn't guarantee the next one won't be terrible, which i'm hoping this won't be.
SirJediFrank
SirJediFrank - 1/30/2009, 9:08 AM
yes, the Contests work for both as an incentive for the fans to participate, and for the studios, they work to promote a particular launch ( the movie itself or its respective DVD).. but there is ALREADY a cool NEW WATCHMEN DVD.. i´ll post an article for you to see.

I think that would be a cool pick for any Watchmen fan,but yeah maybe it is too soon since the Hulk Vs Contest is hard as of right now... mmmh yes let´s give CBM some time after the movie is released and the DVD comes out.. though that´s a long time from now...
Shaman
Shaman - 1/30/2009, 9:57 AM
For Watchmen yes but not for other animated features coming out soon like WW or anything else i haven't heard yet. There's always something coming out here and there, it doesn't have to be for watchmen right this minute. And there's also Punisher:War Zone coming out on DVD soon so any "fan" of the character would gladly try to win his own free copy of it. Especially IF it's a "special edition" (wink wink CBM). I think SEs add a "je ne sais quoi" to a competition don't you all find? :)) That also goes for "box sets" maybe when Smallville finishes, they can make a competition to win the WHOLE SERIES by making a "Superman contest".
SirJediFrank
SirJediFrank - 1/30/2009, 10:22 AM
Well there is always something new out there for sell, and there are fans for every comicbook character (heck, i am a Wonder Man´s fan for that matters :-]) but i was appealing to the amount of fans that Watchmen and Wolverine have, since they are the next-big budget-Live Action-hugely-anticipated (MUCH MORE than the Hulk Vs series) movies to be launched this year.

hey maybe not a "Fan Art" contest, maybe some "Fan Script" original story contest, thoug that would be odd to quantify.. perhaps limit it to a 500 words original story essay (BUT WITHOUT A POSSIBLE CAST INCLUDED, JUST THE CHARACTERS, SORRY SMAMAN!! :-]) lol
Shaman
Shaman - 1/30/2009, 10:42 AM
LOL, s'alright :) But they'd have to read all of the entries, and the participants would win... what?
SirJediFrank
SirJediFrank - 1/30/2009, 10:55 AM
hehe i just pasted the last paragraph from my last comment in the new Hulk art article.. hehe sorry Shaman, couldn´t avoid it! :-] (but without the capital letters, that is)
SirJediFrank
SirJediFrank - 1/30/2009, 11:14 AM
Well the prices could be.. mmh, well , Action Figures? yes yes I wan´em ALLLLL!! hahaha. Now how come we haven´t seen a Fanstite devoted to comicbook action figures ah? I have just a few pics of them in mine, but hadn´t had the time to add more or update them...

And yes we also should read them all.. though that woul be fun too.
