FUTURAMA Season 12 To Premiere In 2024; Hulu Renews Animated Series For Two More Seasons

Hulu has confirmed that Futurama season 12 will debut on their streaming service at some point in 2024. Plus, the streamer has also renewed the fan-favorite series for two more seasons after that!

Futurama is back (for twenty more episodes), baby!

Hulu has announced today that they've renewed the acclaimed animated series for twenty additional episodes, which will be split into two ten-episode seasons, Season 13 and Season 14, which are likely to debut in 2025 and 2026, respectively.

Additionally, we've also received official confirmation that Season 12 will premiere in 2024, and even though we don't have an exact release window, it's probably a safe bet it'll arrive sometime next summer, similar to the most recent season, although, there is always a chance the next batch of ten episodes could arrive sooner to meet the demand.

Season 11, which ran from July to September this year, debuted a decade after the series initially concluded and ran for ten episodes. The new season currently boasts a stellar 86% Certified Fresh rating on review aggregator RottenTomatoes, so hopes are certainly high for next season and beyond.

Hulu describes Futurama as a key pillar of their newly launched Animayhem brand, so it seems probable they have plans for a lot more than just the thirty episodes they currently have in the pipeline.

The voice cast will return John DiMaggio (Bender Bending Rodriguez), Billy West (Philip J. Fry; Professor Hubert J. Farnsworth; Dr. John A. Zoidberg; Zapp Brannigan), Katey Sagal (Turanga Leela), Tress MacNeille (Mom), Maurice LaMarche (Kif Kroker; Calculon), Lauren Tom (Amy Wong), Phil LaMarr (Phil LaMarr), and David Herman (Scruffy).

Futurama originally launched in 1999 on Fox before being canceled for the first time. It was then revived on Comedy Central with straight-to-DVD films in 2008 and then aired two more seasons before being canceled again. Flash forward ten years and Hulu brought the show back again for the latest episodes. To date, the show has aired 150 episodes, so it seems like reaching 200 before the end of the decade is a very real possibility.

After a brief ten-year hiatus, “Futurama” has sprung triumphantly from the cryogenic tube, its full original cast and satirical spirit intact. The ten all-new episodes of season eleven have something for everyone. New viewers will be able to pick up the series from here, while long-time fans will recognize payoffs to decades-long mysteries – including developments in the epic love story of Fry and Leela, the mysterious contents of Nibbler's litter box, the secret history of evil Robot Santa, and the whereabouts of Kif and Amy's tadpoles. Meanwhile there's a whole new pandemic in town as the crew explores the future of vaccines, bitcoin, cancel culture, and streaming TV.

I honestly admire those insane folks that can stick with a show for decades. The most I've done was watch all of Supernatural. And that was tough to finish, and it's probably my favorite show. The thought of watching every single episode of The Simpsons or some such cartoon makes me feel dizzy. I tapped out of Family Guy and all that after a couple seasons. I can't stick with the same stuff year after year.

@TheVandalore - it’s the same with people who constantly rewatch shows. I usually watch something once and then I’m done forever. I’ve rewatched episodes once and a while sure but never fully rewatching a series.

@TheVandalore -

Part of the trick in managing to stick with any long-running franchise is to start with it while it's still (relatively) accessible. For example, I've been following One Piece since I was literally a toddler, and I can't really blame any of the newcomers for being intimidated by its sheer volume now that it's reached literallly over a 1000 manga chapters and about as many (if not slightly more) anime episodes.

@DrReedRichards - solid point. I imagine most of the folks are long time viewers. A show lasts that long and probably becomes almost a mini tradition for some families.

@EZBeast - if something is short enough, I'll revisit it frequently. But if it's a long haul, I'm almost always one and done too. I can't think of a single show with multiple seasons I've watched again.

@TheVandalore - mind if I ask what you’d consider short?

got to say. season 11 was kind of disapointing

never reached the hights of the original run or even the comedy central run

not enough focus on fry, leela and bender

felt too focused on the commentary rather than the characters

@dracula -

Respectfully disagree. The only outright bad episode was this season's anthology. The rest ranged from casual fun to actually great, with the latest one being this season's best and a very promising tease for things to follow.

While I appreciate them giving Futurama another shot - Season 11 was a mess and I'm not particularly hyped for it being given more seasons at the moment. It was primarily extremely dated concepts, present day social or political aspects, etc...

We had Crypto, Covid, Binge Watching, Amazon Parcel delivery, Cancel Culture, Advertisements overtaking programming, etc... It felt too grounded in 2016-2022 vibes.

Just never really felt like Futurama where its normally a wacky adventure with the planet express crew. The few legacy episodes we had were mostly just ripping off concepts that were done before or just generally poorly executed versions.

The final episode of Season 11 'killed' off Bender, by having his consciousness travel into the 'next layer down' only to be replaced by an unseen above layer. This means the Bender we've known throughout Futurama is dead, yet the show never acknowledges this.

Watched 3 episodes of season 11 out of just admiration for the series and characters but man was it a massive let down; horrible season. It truly and genuinely felt like it was written by AI or chatGPT. Really, really disappointing revival.

That's cool. Shameless plug for the greatest show ever, MASH. I don't have enough time to explain why. Just watch it without the canned laughter. They're all great, but once you get to season 4 literally every episode is a 9 or 10. And the finale, nobody has ever come close. It truly is a perfect show, once you get past some stereotypical tropes from earlier seasons lol

Take to the seas for copies without the laugh track, or get the medicine and martini dvd collection and upload them to plex. Everyone should see this show, especially at a time like this

It's a pretty great show, would definitely agree and suggest people check it out.

Weird how season 11 both acknowledged the end of the comedy central run but also ignored it.

They pick up where the last season left off, but they really do zero to clarify what is going on with Fry and Leela, are they engaged or not?

Zoidberg is back to being alone

Love Futurama and was really pleasantly surprised with the reboot. Felt just like the originals, a seamless transition even after 10 years. I was shocked. I completely expected the reboot to suck.

Family Guy and Futurama were both cancelled and now they can't ever die.

I have never been much of a fan of Futurama so while I'm not the target audience it's actually nice to see how Hulu cares enough to keep around the viewers of something they chose to revive themselves. That's how you build trust and keep your subscribers instead of screwing them over and using the strikes as an excuse.

Nice win for Futurama fans. More revivals like this please.

Sadly Disney is taking over Hulu slowly... so it's going to become more shit over time.

@Scarilian - Then it's better to enjoy these new Seasons in case they want to cancel it.
