Emma Lahana's latest movie is Safer at Home, a tense thriller which is set two years into the pandemic, and follows a group of friends who throw an online party with a night of games, drinking and drugs. After taking an ecstasy pill, things go terribly wrong and the safety of their home becomes more terrifying than the raging chaos outside. It's now available in select theaters, VOD & Digital.
Of course, many of you will remember Emma for her standout role in Marvel Television's Cloak & Dagger as Brigid O'Reilly/Mayhem. The two distinct personalities eventually merged, but the show's premature end meant fans never got to find out where the character's story went from there.
Well, when we recently caught up with the actress, we asked whether she was ever clued into where things were supposed to go for Brigid in a possible third season.
"Yes, I did! I know a little bit of what was in store, and it was such a bummer as it felt like a premature ending for all of us," Emma responded. "If you’re familiar with the character Mina Hess, played by Ally Maki, our characters were going to end up being in a relationship. She goes missing in the final episode, so the third season was going to be about finding her and then this relationship that develops between Brigid/Mayhem and Mina. I was really bummed because it was so great working with Ally, and we didn’t get to do that much together. We were really looking forward to exploring that!"
Those of you who caught Emma in Cloak & Dagger will no doubt agree that she seems like a natural fit for a major superhero movie or TV show role down the line. However, when we asked if that's on her radar, the actress admitted that she's not sure whether a blockbuster like that would be of interest.
"It’s funny, because I do love watching big superhero movies, but I think the reason I really liked the Marvel TV Universe was because things were a lot darker and story/character driven," she explains. "I really appreciated that, but I love watching the big action movies. I love Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman [Laughs]. She’s so rad. I don’t know, I think I prefer things that are a little darker, and I think as you get older, it’s like, ‘Oh, my body...I don’t know if I want to keep doing the stunt training and everything.’ It’s so intensive! I guess we’ll see. I’m just always so happy and grateful to be working, so I’m open to whatever comes along."
Emma is definitely a talent to keep an eye on, and a scene stealer in Safer at Home. Keep checking back here, as we'll share the full interview soon!
