CAPTAIN AMERICA Star Anthony Mackie Is Disappointed FALCON AND WINTER SOLDIER Didn't Get A Second Season

Captain America: Brave New World star Anthony Mackie has expressed disappointment that The Falcon and The Winter Soldier ended after a single season and calls the show "the perfect storm of happiness."

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier picked up after the events of Avengers: Endgame, revealing that Sam Wilson had decided against taking up Steve Rogers on his offer to wield the shield as the new Captain America.

Ultimately, Sam realised he needed to take over the mantle and did so in the finale. As for Bucky Barnes, he was finally able to put his past as The Winter Soldier behind him and move on as a hero in his own right.

The latter's story will continue in Thunderbolts, with the former Falcon taking centre stage in Captain America: Brave New World. However, in an interview with Radio Times, Anthony Mackie admitted he was disappointed to bid farewell to the Disney+ series.

"The Falcon and [the] Winter Soldier, I really enjoyed doing that show," he tells the site. "I was actually excited to do a second season, just so me and Sebastian [Stan] can get paid to hang out. Because it's like me, him and Daniel Brühl. It's kind of like the perfect storm of happiness."

"When they decided to go back to the movies, it is what it is, but I don't have my friends anymore, so it kind of dampens it a little bit," Mackie says of taking Captain America back to theaters. "Anything I can do to hang out with Daniel, a dancing Daniel Brühl, makes me very happy."

It does make sense for Cap's story to continue on the big screen, of course, though many fans have expressed disappointment with how the character has been sidelined since first debuting in 2021.

Of course, original plans called for Captain America: Brave New World to be released this year, only for last year's Hollywood strikes and Marvel Studios' creative overhaul (which will involve extensive reshoots) to push it back by a year.

Marvel Studios' The Falcon and The Winter Soldier stars Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson aka The Falcon, and Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes aka The Winter Soldier. The pair, who came together in the final moments of Avengers: Endgame” team up on a global adventure that tests their abilities—and their patience.

Directed by Kari Skogland with Malcolm Spellman serving as head writer, the series also stars Daniel Brühl as Zemo, Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter, and Wyatt Russell as John Walker.

All episodes are now streaming on Disney+. As for Captain America: Brave New World, that arrives in theaters on February 14, 2025.

@Emeraldbeast62 - don’t be a hater, the problem was the show didn’t have a showrunner, none of those marvel shows did. It didn't commission pilots but instead shot entire $150 million-plus seasons of TV on the fly. It didn't hire showrunners, but instead depended on film executives to run its series. And as Marvel does for its movies, it relied on postproduction and reshoots to fix what wasn't working. Hopefully the showrunner on daredevil will prove successful so they can stick to the good ol tried and true.

The three of them was a lot of fun to watch, so I would've liked a second season as well. Would've even preferred that to a Captain America and a Thunderbolts movie.

@Reginator - they’re sitting on gold with that story. It would be heart wrenching to tell the story of a second captain America, who was mistreated during racist times, but still fought for his country.

I liked this show it’s underrated one of the better limited shows. It’s served as a captain America civil war-1.5 of sorts which I liked.
Good storytelling, terrible, forgettable villains (flagsmashers) but good performances especially from Wyatt Russell as John Walker.
The show needed two more episodes to flesh out the subplots (bucky’s path of atonement felt rushed) but apart from that it was a very decent effort. Fight/action scenes all commendable. Looking forward to captain America brave new world.

@TheMetaMan - the Bucky atonement stuff did feel rushed at the end but I do think The Flag Smashers were alright…

I understood their and Karli’s motivations (even though I think her turn was a bit rushed) but I felt they were victims to the series main problem which was trying to do a bit too much then the had the time for.

@TheMetaMan - problem is that most of these shows didn’t have showrunners, which why in gods name did Disney think it would be a good idea to put out shows using the movie format and not the tried and true Showrunner keeping the boat afloat. I do believe they see this mistake now and that’s why daredevil now has a showrunner and I hope from here out they all will.

It had its issues in that I felt they bit off a bit more then they could chew but I did like the show overall and wouldn’t have minded seeing another season since the dynamic between Bucky & Sam is so fun…

However , I am interested to see how both those characters take the experiences and growth from that to Captain America:Brave New World & Thunderbolts and develop further aswell.

Not every Disney+ MCU Show deserves another season, some just serve as a set-up for a Movie

The trio have chemistry. Those three on the hands of real screenwriters, and a proper showrunner, can make some real cool damage.

Every one of Mackie’s lines sounds something like the way he talked to the audience at the most recent Game Awards:
“You guys are cool guys. I’m a cool guy. “I’m cool, right?”

While I enjoyed the show, I think the plot lines for the villains was the let down for me. Had they solely focused on Bucky, Sam, Zemo, and Walker; I think it would have been much better. The flagsmashers were some very weak villains that to me came off as more of an annoyance within the overall story, than anything compelling.

Seemed hypocritical to me to lecture USAgent about murder the way Falc did after he also murdered a bunch of people in the opening while going after Batroc.

@PapaSpank54 - I feel like there’s a difference…

Walker murdered an unarmed man who was running away and pleading for his life while Sam was in battle with Batroc and his mercenaries

Even Steve killed but he wouldn’t have done what Walker did.

I’m sure he’s super disappointed to have his own Cap movie.
I think Mackie and Stan make a hood lethal weapon type partnership. It will be weird seeing them on different teams going forward.
