IRON FIST Stunt Coordinator Brett Chan Recalls Issues With Marvel Television, Directors, And Even The Cast

Iron Fist stunt coordinator Brett Chan (Warrior) has recalled the difficulties on working with Marvel Television on the Netflix series, shedding some light on those disappointing fight scenes...

All of Netflix's Marvel TV shows were a tad hit-and-miss, and that can primarily be blamed on Marvel Television and Jeph Loeb. We've since heard a lot of awful things about the now-shuttered production house, but stunt coordinator Brett Chan (whose credits include Warrior and Showtime's Halo) has now shed some light on why Iron Fist's fight scenes were so underwhelming.

Saying he gets "PTSD" even hearing about the short-lived series, Chan explained why it was an uphill struggle from the start to make even what we saw play-out on screen happen.

"You know, [we] spent 21-22 hour days trying to make it work and having directors say, 'Ah, no' or having Marvel say, 'Ah, no.' Everyone is fighting and the actor doesn’t want to train. And it's like, 'Guys, throw me a bone. Give me something to work with here.'" It's unclear whether Chan is referring to lead star Finn Jones when he says "the actor," but it does seem likely.

Jones definitely underwhelmed as Danny Rand, but the stunt coordinator had plenty of good things to say about his co-star Jessica Henwick (who we'll next see in The Matrix 4).

"That is why some of our best sequences were with Jessica Henwick. Because she trained four hours a day and she has zero martial arts experience. And we had great guys. Teaching aikido judo, and some kinjustsu. And then delivered some kung fu to add in there. It was just...yeah."

There's been no word on whether Marvel Studios has plans for Iron Fist, but we'd bet on him being about as much a priority for them as the Inhumans given the negative buzz still surrounding the character.

Despite that, a Heroes For Hire movie definitely has some potential...

IF was an all around mess of a show, it definitely didn't start out the gate strong. Season two was better but by that point it wasn't gonna work. Oh well give us MCU Danny!

He's also the stunt coordinator for Warrior, which is night and day compared to Iron Fist. So at least for me it's pretty obvious that he wasn't at fault here.

This explains why Finn Jones was a terrible choice for Iron Fist. Give a proper Iron Fist that can actually fight

@GodHercules20 - or at least let him wear his iconic mask so you can more easily put a stunt double in his place.

If they had given Iron First a proper costume and mask, it wouldn't have mattered about who did or not train. They could have put anyone they wanted in the costume for the fight scenes.

all they had to do is to give iron fist a mask and boom stunt double. but no they wanted to waste time, literally. you can watch the first season only first and last episode and not miss a thing.
but Jessica Henwick was indeed awesome.

@TheClungeMaker - marvel Netflix was certainly a mixed bag. But I really enjoyed its run. It had some great stuff with Daredevil seasons 1-3, Jessica Jones s1, and Luke Cage S2.

Some solid stuff with Luke Cage S1, Punisher S1

And some stinkers with Defenders, Jessica Jones S2-3, Punisher S2, and Iron Fist 1-2
