IRON FIST Star Finn Jones Suits Up In Danny Rand’s Comic-Accurate Mask In New Picture

The Iron Fist show never gave Danny Rand his classic comic book costume, but now, Finn Jones got to wear his character’s signature mask for a picture with a fan.

Iron Fist is perhaps the most controversial series in Netflix's original roster of Marvel series. Both the show and its main character were received quite poorly by audiences. Perhaps one of the most prevalent gripes fans had with the series was the fact that, for a lot of episodes, Danny Rand didn't feel like... well, Danny Rand. Something that contributed to that was the lack of a costume. Throughout two standalone seasons and the team-up series The Defenders, Iron Fist never got the chance to wear his classic green-and-yellow outfit.

Season 2 of the show briefly showed Danny wearing a version of his comic book mask, but aside from that, he remained fairly grounded in his now-MCU-set adaptation. Now, we have a new look at Finn Jones sporting Iron Fist's yellow mask. A Reddit user posted a picture of Jones alongside at 2025's Geek Festival Peru, where Jones made an appearance as a guest. Per the post, a fan gave him the replica mask, which Jones wore for the picture:

It's not a full costume, but the actor looks like he came straight out of a Marvel comic; seeing with the mask solidifies just how good his casting as Danny Rand was. The lack of a super suit for Danny was frustrating, particularly because out of all of the Defenders in the comics, he's historically one of the most colorful. However, as frustrating as it was, there was a story concept behind Rand not donning his signature duds. Speaking to Den of Geek in 2017, Finn Jones stated:

"The thing with all of these shows is not that we're shy to bring the costumes. It's that we want them to feel authentic when it does happen. Danny's on this journey to understanding what his responsibility is. And throughout all of [Iron Fist] Season 1, he was in no state of mind to put a suit on. That would've been ridiculous because he was not fully accomplished as the Iron Fist yet and he certainly didn't have the right or the responsibility to be putting on a superhero costume. He needs to work his shit out. And certainly by the end of The Defenders, it will feel right."

Then, in 2018, Iron Fist Season 2 showrunner Raven Metzner and star Finn Jones made an appearance at SDCC to promote the show. Addressing the flashback of Danny wearing the Iron Fist mask and his lack of a costume, Metzner said the following (via Den of Geek):

"There's a reason why in K'un-Lun those masks are worn. It's the same reason that, to keep people anonymous when you're fighting people you've know your whole life, you know? And we use that in interesting ways in the fight, in story, and we did a lot of research on actual ceremonial masks from many different cultures. We had our wardrobe team design that mask and filtered it through all these different versions of different masks that real people really wear for different ceremonial events. On top of that, the eye black is something that is used in football, it's used in military, to keep the sun's glare away, so you can do combat."

It's still unclear if Jones will return as Danny Rand in the MCU. Daredevil: Born Again made all of Netflix's Marvel shows canon, and Krysten Ritter and Jon Bernthal got to reprise their roles as Jessica Jones and Punisher, respectively. With that, the door is technically open for Jones to play Danny once again. He has previously shared his excitement to make a comeback as the character, so hopefully, with Marvel Studios putting more focus on street-level heroes, he will get another shot at the "immortal" hero.

Iron Fist and The Defenders are both streaming on Disney+.

Umm no. He wouldn’t even train in martial arts for the first season of Iron Fist and it definitely showed.

@AnthonyVonGeek - He didn't get a chance to train. Marvel TV screwed up by almost running out of time to start filming. The cast was cobbled together quickly. Finn had to learn fight choreography minutes before filming fight scenes.

For season 2 he dedicated his time to training in martial arts months before filming was set to begin (Approx 6 months).

Not his fault. Blame Loeb and Perlmutter for that screw up.

@AnthonyVonGeek - He did train, he just didn't have a lot of time to due to his last minute casting. And there was hardly any pre-choreography. Mist of the fight scenes were made up on the spot the day of filming, leaving him hardly any time to practice the fight scenes, hence the reliance on doubles. But he did have time to train and learn the choreography for The Defenders and IF Season 2, and it showed.

He looks good imo!!.

While I don’t think Netflix’s Iron Fist was great in either season , I do think the second was indeed better then the first with one of the reasons being the K’un L’un Flashbacks we got , particularly the fight between Danny & Davos for the right to face Shou Lao…

The fight choreography/editing is certainly not to the level of a Shang Chi but certainly better then S1 and honestly most tv shows imo.

I also like the story being told aswell between the various characters such as the little bits we get between Lei King’s struggle to be impartial given his son Davos being in the fight aswell his prodigy Danny and the latter’s mother wanting her son to ascend alongside the close friendship & brotherhood essentially with this Danny and Davos aswell.

Anyway , I do hope Finn comes back to the role aswell as Colter in regards to Luke so we can get a Heroes for Hire show…

Dude showed he could be good given the right direction & material since as IF S2 and especially LC S2 which was his peak imo!!.

Have Danny and Luke appear in Shang Chi 2 and make the film an ode to 70’s kungfu flicks, blackploitation films 80’s and 90’s kungfu crime thrillers and 90’s hip hop. Have it take place in NYC and have RZA do the score.

Have them go up against The Hand and give Danny the track suit and yellow mask(have it similar to DDs1 mask) that way they can allow a stunt guy for some of the fighting choreography.
