Loki and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania star Jonathan Majors was found guilty on domestic violence charges last year but his sentencing is no longer going ahead today as planned.
The actor, who was convicted of reckless assault and harassment during a December trial, had been gearing up to learn whether he'll spend time behind bars for the alleged incident. However, his defence lawyer Priya Chaudhry has filed various motions with the court, pushing the hearing back to later today.
Deadline now expects sentencing to take place later this month; Majors is facing anything from probation to a year in prison as a first-time offender in a misdemeanour case.
The Kang the Conqueror actor was fired by Marvel Studios shortly after being found guilty. The trial saw his lawyers paint his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari as a "liar" who was out for revenge when their relationship broke down. The six-person jury disagreed after being presented with evidence pointing to a history of abuse within their relationship.
That included an argument through text which saw Jabbari talk about wanting to visit a doctor for painkillers, promising to tell them the injury was because she'd bumped her head. There was also an argument she'd recorded in secret that saw Majors berate his then-girlfriend for coming home drunk after a night out with friends. He'd call himself a "great man" who needed a "great woman" like Coretta Scott King or Michelle Obama.
On the night of the incident (leading to Majors being arrested by New York City police), Jabbari testified that he'd fractured her finger and struck her across the head.
For those of you who aren't aware, they met on the set of Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania when she was working as a movement coach.
The Loki star has maintained his innocence and came under fire last month for taking part in an ABC News interview which saw him plead his case despite being found guilty in court. Wiping a tear from his eye during the conversation, Majors was asked how he thinks Jabbari was injured.
"I wish to god I knew. That would give clarity. That would give me some type of peace about it," he said, adding he had been "reckless with her heart" and claiming to have never struck a woman "ever."
Asked about a possible Hollywood return, Majors shared his belief he deserves a second chance. "Yeah, I do. I pray I do. But it's God's plan and God's timing." Before this incident, his star had been on the rise and all signs pointed to him becoming one of the world's most in-demand actors.
