Marvel Studios' Disney+ TV Shows Were Among The Most Pirated Titles Of 2021

The list of 2021's most pirated TV shows has been revealed, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe unsurprisingly dominated. Which of them took the #1 spot? You can find the full top 10 after the jump...

TorrentFreak has revealed that WandaVision, the first Marvel Studios TV series to premiere on Disney+, was the most pirated show released in 2021 across torrent sites (for those of you unfamiliar with them, it's where people go to illegally download movies and TV shows).

The Mandalorian was #1 in 2020, but this year was understandably dominated by the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Loki was in second place, though The Witcher season 2 managed to nab third despite only being released on Netflix earlier this month. In WandaVision's case, it's said that each episode was downloaded "millions of times," so that's a lot of subscribers Disney+ is missing out on.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier was in fourth place, Hawkeye was in fifth, and animated series What If...? was in sixth place. While piracy is inevitable, this isn't good news for streaming as consumers find themselves faced with a near endless list of platforms they're asked to subscribe to.

Sony Pictures remains one of the only major studios without a streaming service, which seems to have paid off in a big way over the past couple of years. This is evident from the success of movies like Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Spider-Man: No Way Home at the global box office.

It's a little surprising that we haven't seen a greater crackdown on piracy in this "pandemic era," but there's only so much studios can do. Here's the full list of top 10 pirated TV shows in 2021:

1. Wandavision
2. Loki
3. The Witcher
4. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
5. Hawkeye
6. What If...?
7. Foundation
8. Rick and Morty
9. Arcane
10. Wheel of Time

The Witcher and Rick & Morty kinda surprise me, since at this point it feels like everyone has a Netflix account. Disney+ and Apple TV+ on the other hand do make sense to me

@bkmeijer - Rick and Morty makes perfect sense as it’s not on Netflix in the US and they’ve yet to add season 5 to Hulu or HBO Max.

@thunderpun573 - I thought Rick & Morty was available to watch on the Adult Swim website, but if not than I stand corrected

@bkmeijer - true it is, but I believe only if you have a cable subscription, which I do not.

The thrill of movie and music piracy wore off on me in the late 90s. Besides being hurtful to people who work in film and music, finding and downloading stuff is simply too much work for mostly crappy duped material. It’s like picking through the trash at a McDonald’s.

Watched the last 2 episodes of Falcon/Bucky last night and can confirm that show still hits. The Carli stuff is very middling and the finale is still too quick with some of it's beats, but that show really touches film quality for the most part. Especially loved how well shot so much of it was. Really need more Sam and Bucky pairings in the future

Impressive that The Witcher recently came out less than 2 weeks and it made it to the list.
