Netflix's Tudum fan-event took place over the weekend, and we have some exciting updates for fans of The Witcher.

The streamer has announced (via SFFGazette) that the third season of the fantasy adventure series is set to arrive next summer (no exact date has been revealed), while The Witcher: Blood Origin will premiere this Christmas on December 25.

The prequel series has also added Minnie Driver (Grosse Point Blank, Good Will Hunting) to its cast as Seanchai, "a shapeshifting collector of old lore with the abilities to travel between time and worlds."

The character will also serve as the show's narrator.

“Where The Witcher came from is a whole world and you need some help understanding that,” Driver tells Netflix. “So I’m pivotal in helping people understand where this origin story comes from.”

You'll find new posters for both shows below.

Blood Origin will star Michelle Yeoh (Shang-Chi, Gunpowder Milkshake) as Scían, "the very last of her nomadic tribe of sword-elves, she is an artist with the blade, on a deadly quest that will change the fate of the Continent." She'll be joined by Laurence O’Fuarain (Game of Thrones, Vikings, Black 47) as Fjall, "a warrior who was born into a clan sworn to protect a King," and Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen and Slim, True Blood, Nightflyers) as Éile, "a warrior turned travelling musician from a rival clan."

Specific plot details are still mostly under wraps, but we do know that the show will be set 1200 years before the events of The Witcher, and focus on the origin of the very first monster hunter as well as the events that lead to the pivotal "conjunction of the spheres."

An updated synopsis for The Witcher season 3 was released earlier this year, giving us a much better idea of what to expect from the ongoing story.

"As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it. "Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. "They must fight back, put everything on the line - or risk losing each other forever."

I enjoyed both seasons of Witcher. I know some book fans are disappointed that it strayed from the novels but I found season 2 to be a big improvement over season 1. I’m excited for the next.

Season 1 was all over the place. It should have had a better structure to tell the story.

Season 2 was great cause there was an actual flow to it and wasn't a big confusing story that jumped back and forth into different time frames.

Hopefully season 3 is great.
